Post subject: | Router Firmware Stuck |
I just learned the other day that my modem was in fact 7 years on and failing, mostly when my internet completely went out for a day. So, I ran down to my ISP's offices and picked up a new one. I plugged it in, and it works fine, except now my router (a DLink WBR-2310) is not liking it so much (read: failing to get the IP address of my computer). Now, I know exactly why it's doing this, and it's that the firmware it came shipped with was in fact not the latest firmware despite the installation CD saying that it was according to the website. I'm running version 1.02, and according to many sites, I need version 1.04 to fix that. I downloaded the latest firmware, and now I've run into a problem. In order to install it, I obviously need the router plugges into the modem. However, with the router plugged into the modem, because it can't get the IP address, it won't connect to the internet, which is somehow needed in order to install it. And of course, I can't fix that until I install the firmware. As a side note, the modem it was working with had to be traded in to get the new one. Basically my question is the following: is there any way to change the firmware for my router anywhere other than through the router's menu, as it doesn't work? Or is it time to kiss this router goodbye and replace it with a better one? |

Well id say , if you got a usb drive go to a friends house, a local school, a libaray. grab the firmware. From there you can then just plugin the router to your computer and just upgrade the firmware like that.. unless i missed something |

I suppose that, assuming I can find a friend with a compatible modem that is willing to give up their computer for a while so I can update it, it might work. However, this version of software, as far as I can tell, is only compatible with fairly old modems, and I don't know anybody with one that old. |
