When i get back from working out at wrestling practice, the last thing i want to do is read a book. I'll finish the game of thrones on the weekends, righ tnow i wanna lay back and watch tv.

Reading a book and watching TV aren't the only things you can do after groping sweaty men.

So guy's situation update on the state of science in the world.

A physicist recently made a breakthrough on a few decade old problem preventing the only plausible method of faster than light travel from working.
Nasa is now beginning research on potentially developing and building a ship capable of reaching Alpha Centauri(~4 lightyears away) in 2 weeks.
The 2045 initiative aims at making humans as a species immortal in the next 30-50 years via machinery and technology.
Our weapon technology is bordering on planet crackingingly powerful. (We could build nuclear ordinance capable of shattering the earths crust down to the mantle and devastating the entire planet)
We have a detailed understanding of how planets and stars interact and mathematics computational computers that outpace the human mind a thousand fold, allowing us to plot courses with only meters of inaccuracy over lightyears of distance.
We have yet to encounter alien species even now that we know FTL travel is in fact plausible and possible.

Now, provided sapient alien life does exist and that we will beat the staggering odds and find them by random chance, Humankind will be the highly advanced alien visitors of science fiction.

Immortality eh wot? I hope y'all realize that means you'll have to deal with me being around forever, provided that i don't die before turning 53. :U

Also, FTL travel oh my ♥♥♥♥. THIS CONFIRMS MY BELIEF THAT WE ARE LIVING IN THE FUTURE. Still waiting for that hovercar the 50's promised us, though. :c

@Mackerel: three shades if grey

Also FTL travel is cool but immortality sounds awful on so many levels.

Hovercars are quite possible right now actually, the only issue is power efficiency which would be traumatically(for your wallet) worse than a normal wheeled vehicle.
Barring a built in nuclear power source, which has all KINDS of other problems associated don't hold your breath on hovercars being available to anybody but governments who would actually want or need them for some odd reason.

tl;dr Sci-fi movies and games need some new material, reality is catching up fast.

ryanbob please learn how to quote properly.
Every time I see a massive quote pyramid or a youtube video or an image quoted I die a little on the inside.

Post Re: The Lounge
the problem with hovercars isn't their technological feasibility per se (we'll get to that point sometime in the next ten, twenty years)

you know how many pants-on-head retarded people there are on the road today? now double that, and imagine all of them piloting small and volatile airplanes

crashing a car in three dimensions of inner-city traffic, hundreds of feet above the ground would be an awful experience for everyone involved

note: this isn't even considering the implications of drunk and/or stoned people inevitably flying under the influence
