Except that i've played a large variety of building games, with and without physics. DF is among the only 3D ones with liquid physics, however crude they may be.

A not entirely insignificant portion of the Dorf community have expressed that if it wasn't completely unfeasible, they'd actually like to see DF with proper graphics. Besides, if you're not into ASCII, there's a gagillion sprite packs out there. And besides again, worse graphics also leave more time for Toady to work on the actual gameplay, which is actually what people are praising it for. It's a well known fact that both the graphics and the GUI are pretty much terrible. And if you're saying it's stupid to ignore, consider what forum you're on and what game it supports. (note: i still think CC is an amazing game)

Indie cred? Oh please. I don't give any number of shits about how many people made a game, or whether it's just made to get their hands on my moolah or not. If i think it's a fun game, hell yeah i'm going to play it. Likewise am i not going to lambast you if you were to be utterly entranced by match 3 games, but sure, be a ♥♥♥♥ about it. It only makes you look like a bigger ♥♥♥♥.

Fair enough, but you have to agree that it's pretty pointless to insult people about subjective matters. I'm totally fine with people not liking things like DF (which might not be readily apparent), i just don't want to have my ears crammed full of ♥♥♥♥ because of it. What i'd like to hear is more "i don't like X myself, i'm more of an Y guy, but yeah that's fine" and less "X IS TERRIBLE YOU SHOULD STOP PLAYING X IMMEDIATELY YOU FABULOUS ♥♥♥♥♥♥", because quite frankly, the latter is what i saw.

I actually had a rather hilariously sad moment today that relates to this.

So this guy at my school seems to believe that CoD is the best game ever.
Ok, I am fine with this regardless of my opinion.

However he also insists that anybody who doesn't play CoD has no idea what a good shooter game is, and thinks these things:
a) CoD takes significantly more skill than TF2. (I don't really know what to say to this one, but the two games aren't even really comparable as they take different kinds of skill, CoD is pure twitch, while TF2 has some aspect of strategy and player skill to it)
b) Halo sucks because it doesn't have as many guns as CoD. (Great, so he's one of the "more automatically equals better" types...)
c) all of CoDs guns are 100% completely accurate to real life. (I have friends who would probably shoot him for this statement...)


I don't even... like I don't really give a ♥♥♥♥ if he likes the game, I don't, but if he honestly thinks those things, particularly c), then he is frankly a damn idiot.
