Re: Fun Old-ish Games
I'm going to have to say AOE. I had so much god damned fun with that game. Also Warcraft I and II. And Freelancer. I was devastated when the canceled the sequel
I know this one isn't old, but mercenaries for the Xbox is probably my favorite game ever. I have played WoW for more than a day straight, but nothing will ever equal that time i played Mercenaries for an entire weekend. (my parents grounded me for a month and made sure I was asleep like every night for about a year.) Now whenever i see a Korean around a helicopter I get nervous, I always feel the urge to ram oncoming traffic, and I feel the need to get to the roof of every building in my city to look for nuclear secrets. I probably need medical help.
Needles to say, I'm preordering Mercenaries II.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
Mercenaries is quite simply my favorite game on the PS2/Xbox. I have played it at least once with each character and I listen to the soundtrack two or three times a week to this very day. Hell yes, I have a copy preordered, and thanks to the fatass local GameStop manager running his big mouth, I get my copy for FREE.
I'm leery of EA screwing it up with some kind of "pay 200 MS points, get all these cool vehicles that otherwise you'll never see" crap, but, come on, it's freakin' MERCENARIES, man! Even if it sucks it's gonna kick ass.
I didn't mention it already because I don't consider it an old game. I just wish they'd make the 360 emulation of the Xbox work a little better, Mercs 1 is a laughable piece of crap on the 360.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
heres a NES gem I bet non of you have ever heard of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2S9YBm4R ... re=relatedQuote: Based on the French comic book, "Les Tuniques Bleues", this strategy game allows you to replay the American Civil War from both the North and the South sides.
In the strategy part of the game, you can move your troops on a map of the US. If two opposing armies enter the same state, the battle is played out in an action sequence. Additional action sequences must be accomplished when capturing an enemy fort or train.
The game also offers a two-player-mode.

Plays like fire emblem? Fire emblem is my hero, I mean it would be if it was a person, but it's a game... I think I'll stop typing.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
Anyone remember what that genesis game was where you were a robot in a side-scrolling action shooter? You had the choice between a lot of different arms and legs and they would affect your performance in battle and junk. You could duel a friend or cooperatively play the game together.
I miss that one so much but can't for the life of me remember what its name is.

Wait, would that game happen to be one where you could pull your enemies' arm off? I loved that game... Not sure if that's the game you're talking about. I can't remember the name for ♥♥♥♥, but it was awesome. Like, "Oooh, gold arm!" *YOINK* "Fits nicely :3" I remember being able to play Co-op... Twice the YOINKage.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
I've heard of earthbound, but never really played it. Toejam and earl still has to be one of my favorites (play it on the genesis emulator on the PSP). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toejam_and_earlThere were a couple sequels I believe, a side scrolling action which was just as cool as the 3d-ish adventure. I think there was even a true 3d made on the playstation. Those guys at Sony sure took over a lot of Sega titles.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
First game I ever played, the almighty gem that got me into gaming. Sonic, I salute you. I actually still have my megadrive, and this game in my attic. I first played it when i was 7 years old, and I have since been gaming up until now (15 years old) Another one is.. The best game of all time IMO, The legend of Zelda: The ocarina of time. Damn that game was good. Still have it on my N64 too

You can tell which ones of us are old fashioned people when we are saying the older games But the older games were mostly the best games.

Another game, Starfox 64. Flying and blasting your way with 3 route options that you can chose by finding secret passages in levels and doing extra stuff. Pure fun! This game is also on the Wii's VC if you want to try it and you don't own a N64.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
In my opinion, the N64 was the best console ever. I never played the nes or snes so I don't know what they were like. what happened to the durability? now its all red lights of death when it used to be popping the cartridge out and blowing in it.
And sadly, I hate the Ocarina of time, maybe I played it too much at my cousins house. My favorite Zelda game is the wind waker.
