Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
I just don't understand desktop icons because if I'm in the middle of doing something I'm not going to minimize that window, then find the icon on my desktop, then launch it. The start menu exists for a reason, plus there's a myriad of ♥♥♥♥ awesome ways to launch programs that are way better than the start menu, which is itself way better than the desktop.
For the same reason, I don't understand rainmeter/desktop tweaks and ♥♥♥♥. Alright, sure, nerd cred, whatever, but do you ever actually spend time just looking at your desktop? That's dumb.

I tried to use Rainmeter but I quickly realized that ♥♥♥♥, I don't need it for anything. Launchy + Win7 Taskbar is all the quicklaunching I need.

Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
In my defence, and that of all the other people who really use rainmeter and their desktop:
I often have skype/msn/whatever running on 1/3 of my screen, measered from the right edge to just before the center to be specific, and thus have a very big empty space occupying the rest of my screen. What do I do with that space? I have games running on medium windowed resolution OR have my media player running in the background. I use rainmeter to clean up apps that I would otherwise have running on the taskbar or somewhere in the corner of my screen. This really reduces the amount of windows that I have open or minimized at all times.
Take, for instance, the steam app and the CPU monitor. I use steam A LOT and therefor it's right there where I need it when I need it. The CPU monitor on the other hand is very usefull when you are rendering on an overclocked machine that is pushed to it's limit. I can still skype and do a lot of other stuff while keeping an eye on it.
The text that is in the center of the screen gives me all my RSS feeds and youtube channels so I no longer have to check up on them in a browser(which would maximise infront of the skype window.)
The hard disk meter is just there to remind me that I have to clean up my disks.
The clock and weather aren't really necesarry, nor are the game icons, but they fill up empty space. (And I still use them often enough.)
As you can see, I really USE my rainmeter desktop. I hope you now understand why having an interactive desktop can actually serve a purpose.

Re: Post Your Desktop II (humorous phrase here)
Fair enough, I suppose. That's my current setup. The big black bar is due to me using two differently-sized monitors in a dual monitor setup; one's 1680x1050 and one's 1440x900. I keep secondary information on the right monitor, and anything that I'm actually actively doing on the left. Chat windows, uTorrent, and anything else I feel the need to keep visible without being immediately important goes on the right half of the right window (win key + arrow keys = <3 windows 7) The Digsby buddy list occupies the same region of the screen as the Steam friends list would, so I can alternate between the two as I feel like it. Foobar is my music player, it's lightweight and clean. Generally the browser occupies the entire left screen, or whatever game I'm playing, or whatever else I'm actively doing. Sometimes I put up a netflix movie on the right side when I'm doing something brainless in terraria/minecraft/gmod
