Stab your pen the other way through the door to distract it (maybe there's more than one and they hate eachother?) and also to make the door harder to open.
(And also so you stop carrying the thing around and maybe will have a chance to meet someone without scaring them of (as if) ).
Then run in whatever direction smells best.
The monsters seem to smell like rotten meat.
