Hopefully you will have engaged some trap which will kill them and not you.

We dropped it anyway. *Thwack* Seriously though, figure out whether your whip firing gun fires whips at stuff or whether it acts like a whip with a trigger, then jump behind the golden box thing and drop anything apart from your whip gun into that hole. It might do something. OR Provoke the golden box monster, then blame the evil guy and his bodyguard guys.
