Re: Fun Old-ish Games
I really enjoyed a game called Liero back in the day... think a sort of networked cross between CC and Worms.
With grapplin' hooks.
I have more, but I'm having a brain fart and I can't remember them at this exact moment. Will edit post when I know.

I believe that is when pertinent knowledge passes through your ear canal and exits the side of your head in a noxious, smelly, green cloud. @Fredrick: Ever tried LieroX, OpenlieroX, or Gusanos? I think LieroX is the closest you'll get to original Liero in terms of gameplay, but Gusanos is the best in terms of modability. Darkmode has stolen my soul... Oh, and just discovered The Ur-Quan Masters. The Spathi are the trippiest aliens I've seen. Not seen a whole lot though...

Anybody still have Heroes of Might and Magic 3? I have it, but all the maps I search for are down.

I had a kickass mech, it had tank treads and all of its weapons made enemies overheat. After a few seconds of Flamethrower and Dual incendiary rounds, they were dead. I also had the two strongest shoulder cannons... Oh god, I sound like such a nerd right now...

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
Seeing Armored Core 2 in action is what convinced me to buy a PS2. I got so good at that game I beat every level and every arena battle (except Funeral Mask) using blades only. I actually bought 2 PS2s so that I could play System Link games with my buddies, but I only ever got to play ONE System Link game of Armored Core in my entire life.
System Shock. This game is noteworthy as having the best villain in any game ever. If you are not aware of SHODAN, Google "The Girl Who Wanted to be God."
I'm seconding the love for Jackal. I was stuck on the boss of the second level for almost a year, simply because I was a stupid little kid who didn't realize that I should shoot the statue heads over and over even though it didn't do any visible damage. I remember the first time I ever beat that flamethrower tank, I felt like a true hero.
Okay, for something REALLY retro, does anybody remember Sun Dog or Adventure Construction Set? I probably put 300 hours each into those two games.

Re: Fun Old-ish Games
Guys, great news!
I don't need to get a new N64 now, because my brother got our router working, and then I went and bought two 2000 Wii Point cards!
Now I have Super Mario 64, Startfox 64, and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time! Huzzah!
I've already played Starfox for a little while, and I'm at Dodongo's Cavern in The Ocarina of Time. But Ocarina is harder than I remember. I mean I remember it being hard, but it's confusing too.
At least I have them!

You really come to appreciate old games when your computer is a piece and you're a broke loser.
Ah, nostalgia.

And I can't play forever on my brothers computer, he's leaving for Uni in September. He's taking the 360 too! I need an extremely cheap computer fast, but I already have some parts my brother will let me have. God I need a job, but if you think I'm getting a paper round, think again! Also Harvest Mood Freinds Of Mineral Town for the GBA was amazing.

So... you can't even play Cortex Command until you get that new computer? (or until Data finishes the Mac version) P.S. Haven't heard of that game.

Chrono Trigger for the SNES and Final Fantasy 7 for the PSX. Good times.
