Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
This topic is funny because everybody has forgotten what an opinion is.
I have now decided that Halo 3 is better, after playing both of them, because of the multiplayer. Even including the mods, Halo 3 is better. I play Gmod a lot, but it's getting kinda boring, and it lags up my computer. Halo 3, in comparison, runs fine even in multiplayer. And I love using all those guns that statistically probably suck but are awesome (Brute shot/Needler/Rocket Launcher).
Oh, and Miles, what do you mean no Crossbow? What about the Sniper Rifle? Doy? Or, to a lesser extent, the Spartan Laser?

maybe so.
there are still many reasons why HL2 is better than the entire Halo series put together.
why?
storyline, weaponry, character development, variety, puzzles, horror-combined-with-action, and above all, physics. Halo 3 has (barely) any physics. or variety. or character development.

Of course Halo 3 runs fine, it's specifically designed and optimized for the platform you're running it on. The crossbow in half life 2 NAILS PEOPLE TO WALLS. Your crappy sniper rifles do not. You have giant phallic laser things; we have a gun that shoots an orb of concentrated energy that can literally disintegrate multiple enemies.

Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
I actually prefer the Halo storyline. And there's plenty of character development, what about the whole Cortana thing? In fact, in the Half Life series, Gordon hardly changes at all. He never says anything still. He never develops. He just runs about with unrealistic calmness while surrounded by Zombies and Aliens. At least the Halo Marines are smart enough to scream. The flood are much cooler than headcrabs (and there are no missions in Half Life were you have zombies on your team 0: ) The Spartan Laser can easily disinegrate as many people as there are standing in a line. Oh. And most importantly. VehiclesAll you get in Half Life is a Jeep and a Airboat. Driving around in a Scorpion Tank or a Hornet is much more fun. And don't forget Forge Mode By the way, I'm still not counting mods as official content, or prequels.

Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
Then you can't count Forge, you hypocrite.
Which do you prefer, a silent, stoic character, or a character with such an inflated ego that what little dialogue he makes is so cliched that you can predict each word well before he says it?
Headcrabs > the flood any day.
Headcrabs do not attack you in mindless endless swarms numbering in untold thousands while you attempt to navigate through a menial level where each stage looks identical to the previous one.
Headcrabs attack in small clusters in isolated areas, and you can actually kill them with all your weapons; you are not restricted to spraying wildly with an SMG as seven thousand identical baby-shit green blobs attack you from all directions.
You get an airboat that, without wheels, is ironically significantly more maneuverable than the Spartan vehicle of choice.
And once you get the gun on it, you can mow down Combine just as efficiently as anyone in Halo can, except for two things: 1: There is no retarded AI attempting to guide you/shoot for you 2: It's a hell of a lot more fun to face a mine-dropping helicopter gunship from a tiny little airboat then it is from a giant tank. And a lot more challenging.

You forgot to put the line "In my opinion" at the end of that post there. Although on reflection it was probably intentional. But still wrong.

I'm sorry you haven't actually brought up a superior counter to any of my statements.
That's generally how debates work, you see.
One person says something, someone else counters it, etc.
Unless you've accepted that Halo 3 is complete and utter ♥♥♥♥.

You didn't actually counter any of my arguments, you simply stated an opinion.

As did you. You said: Quote: In fact, in the Half Life series, Gordon hardly changes at all. He never says anything still. He never develops. See how this whole point-counterpoint system works? All my points are based on fact. As a matter of fact, your post contains more opinions than mine does.

Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
Ok then.
I do, in fact, prefer a character who displays emotion, instead of just standing there and not reacting to anything. It is much more realistic. Even if you were some sort of super-scientist, would you stand there silently when surrounded by zombies?
The flood are more diverse than headcrab zombies, and none of the flood stages of Halo 3 look like eachother. One is a ruined city (lol Ravenolm), one is a spaceship interior, and another is a huge fleshy creature-interior sort of thing. Much more diverse than "A dilapidated town" and "Another dilapidated town". Oh, and that old favourite, "A dilapidated canal full of random radioactive goo".
You may enjoy driving around in the puny airboat, shooting at it with a machinegun thing, personally I would prefer to use the tank. It would, in fact, be much much more challeging, considering that the tank is much slower than the airboat. And I personally love the flying vehicles, which you get none of in Half-Life.
Forge is not a mod. It is official content. How does that make me a hypocrite? If GMod was built into Half-Life 2 by the developers, not a seperate game based off of the code by Garry, I'd count it. But it isn't and therefore I don't. Forge was made by Bungie, and is not an addon. Therefore it counts.

Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
But the content MADE with Forge is not created by Bungie.
The character Gordon Freeman follows a specific archetype; you are meant to live through the character. Having no reactions appeals to more people than having a reaction opposite of what the player thinks they would do. Thus, a blank slate is designed to be universally appealing.
I didn't say that the flood stages look like each other, I said that all parts of each individual level looked identical to each other.
Flood types, as far as I can recall: Lone Flood Flood Person Exploding Flood
Headcrab/Zombie types: Headcrab Poison Headcrab Zombie Fast Zombie Poison Zombie Zombine
I will admit that Halo 3 has flying vehicles while HL2 does not. But Half Life 2's universe does not support the rebels having air vehicles. It's meant to be a dystopian society where the rebels can barely cope and have to resort to archaic technology. The same problem applies to a tank.
Have you even BEEN in any modern cities?
They all look the same!
Valve is being realistic, whereas Bungie was just lazy in making all their areas look the same.
Besides which your point is untrue, the areas of half life 2 are as distinctive as is really possible, considering that HALF THE GAME TAKES PLACE IN THE SAME PLACE.
You can't compare the Citadel to Nova Prospekt to the Canal to Kleiner's Lab to Breen's Office to the sewers to the train station, to whatever.
They don't look the same.
And where is there radioactive goo in the canal anyways? Only random radioactive goo I can recall in a game recently was in, ah, Halo.

Yeah Grif, he has a point there, there was radioactive goo in the sewer levels of HL2.

Re: Halo3 & Half-life2, wich one you like more?
You know, at the start? The first time you meet zombies? There's, you know, green radioactive stuff stopping you from going to certain places, just before you get the airboat?
OH, and here are the flood types (Though, as I think you said you only played Halo the first, you wouldn't know this):
Infection (Tiny ones) Human Soldier (Shooty ones) Alien Soldier (Different Shooty ones) Carrier (Big exploding ones)
Also three others I can't remember the names of
Three legged stealthy thing (Can mutate into two below) Immobile turret thing (Can mutate into one above or one below) Big strong behemoth thing (Can mutate into two above)
Why is it that when Valve make all cities look the same, and when Bungie has no areas that look particularly similair, it's bad?

Actually I was referring to the parts where you drive the airboat through sewer pipes full of radioactive ♥♥♥♥.
