devlog wrote: I created a pocket world. Kivish Soarcrafted the dwarf was abducted at age 3 and moved to the Cruel Tower in Felldweller. He became a farmer and married Olin Roofchanced, another abductee, and eventually joined the guard. The humans and goblins were fighting a lot at this time, and the demon and many goblins were slain in the wars, as well as Kivish's wife. Kivish then personally led four defenses against the human onslaughts on the dark tower, and by the year 33 there were only 11 defenders left. In the year 34, only 4 defenders remained, and Kivish became the leader of the goblin civilization, such as it was. More attacks followed, and in the year 35, Kivish stood alone against twenty four human attackers, defending Felldweller and a goblin baby that had been born in 33, the only other resident. Kivish was victorious, but the dwarves then launched an assault on Felldweller, and Kivish faced 22 dwarves in the Forest of Dashing outside Felldweller, killing 4 of his own kind before being fatally shot by a crossbow bolt. Although the dwarves were victorious on the field, the humans slipped in and installed a new leader in Felldweller, who lived alone with the goblin child, Amxu Blottedvile, for a year before more humans decided to move in, establishing a temple to Odel the goddess of truth called the Truthful Temple in 37 and a mead hall called the Muscular Voice in 54. The original human city declared war on the dwarves after this and was eventually conquered, and the humans there died out over fifty years, with dwarven populations established in two mountain fortresses and the formerly human town. Felldweller, now a human-populated dark tower, never went to war again, but without support from the original human city, the humans left there eventually died out. I'll have to check out exactly what happened there.
Amxu had entered the priesthood of the Truthful Temple by this time, and as the last of the humans aged and died, Amxu, the last goblin in the world, became the high priest of the Cult of Honesty, worshipping the human goddess of truth alone in Felldweller. Amxu continued in this capacity for 157 years at which time play began. I decided to start an adventurer, and I only had two choices -- a human from the dark tower (it doesn't check for existing critters, just the controlling culture), or a dwarf from any of the the dwarf-controlled sites. I started as a human in Felldweller. It was a strange place. There were three goblin towers, a full set of empty stores, many hovels, the mead hall and the Truthful Temple. I met Amxu there. I asked him about his family, and he told me about several goblins that had died in the wars 300 years ago. Then I joined the temple so he wouldn't be so lonely and retired there. I guess I'll die of old age eventually though. That can't be helped, since he's the last immortal in the world. i'm so pumped for this build you guys

Was hoping to keep the fact that I've become so much more active over there then here hidden... As long as it's out in the open anyway... Perhaps it's the fact that there's none of those "lol haow 2 maek modz" people there... Perhaps it's the complete maturity of the populace, despite their varying ages. (Notably, the youngest is 11, yet he acts just as mature as the ones in their 30s and 40s.. Maybe a few people here could take a hint and get with it? [Not going to name any names, you know who you are.])

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
Alenth introduced me, and it is indeed a fun game, though I'd have gone through 3 monitors by now if he wasn't there to guide me through the basics. Initially, it was essentially the Matrix; you know, that scene where Neo is talking to the traitor dude as they both look at the code of the Matrix, Neo totally uncomprehending and the other guy just calmly reading the whole thing perfectly. I can't really explain how confused I was as Alenth shifted Z-levels and such, pointing out dwarves and water pits as I stared at the ASCII wondering if I really wanted to involve myself. He had a graphics pack, too, and I was still confused.
I only played for about 2 days before other stuff took over, but I'm definitely going to see (eventually) how much longer I can go before I lose my first fortress to any on the huge list of bad things in DF. Also, go to "fun" on the wiki. It'll help you understand the game far better than any other page.

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
Everyone is having more luck with finding ores than me. Skiv, completely unnecessary huge stone stockpile. Here is what you do: go to zones then designate a dumping area, just one square, somewhere outside your fortress, or inside with a double-doored miasma chamber lock. Then instead of wasting space with massive stone stockpiles, simply dump the stones that you want to get rid off in this small dump area. The stones will stack on top of each other, saving space. Since all dumped items are automatically marked as forbidden, go to designations and then reclaim items/buildings if you wish to use the stone again. The reason you build the double doored miasma chamber lock inside is just in case one of your dwarves decides that it would be a great idea to dump rotten corpses in this stone dump area. This can usually be avoided with an efficient butcher shop. This is sort of cheating but it definitely solves the loads of stone problem every fortress has.

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
Except for the fact that dumping the stone takes forever. 3 legendary miners produce so much, that you will be bored to death when dumping.

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
I agrees with Kall, thats the exact thing that happened. i have 2 legendary miners, and they produce SO much stone, that i ♥♥♥♥, vomit, and pee with stone... ITs so annoying.

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
@B.U.N.M.O: If you dig diagonally then you don't need to close it off, as miasma can't travel diagonally.
And I have a couple of legendary miners, and when I go to dump all the stuff, I just let the fort run and I go do something else, like make a sandwich or something and when I get back it is usually done.

 Re: Dwarf Fortress
Wait, so what 21GP posted, that can really happen in the next build?
So your son could get captured or stolen as a boy then you have to fight his colony someday maybe?
