Post Re: The Cortex Command Mod Repository
Considering the last post was that the head team was trying to fix a glitch and then set it up, I would have to infer that it's not dead, but rather postponed until that's done, seeing as we can't do anything with it until then.

Post Re: The Cortex Command Mod Repository
I'm baaack. Mwhahahaha.
But only to work on this project.
I'll try to roll out new features tomorrow, Sunday and every weekend I get to work on this.
But for today, I have for you a simple image uploader. Eventually, this will be what the Mod DB will be using to upload pictures of the mod.
http://ccmd.freehostia.com/image.php
Don't abuse it, I have limited disk space (and I don't think you guys can upload anything above 500kb on this server anyway). "Security" code is 223344.
Files upload to http://ccmd.freehostia.com/images/username_you_used/
Oh, and don't use this as image hosting either. I WILL be deleting any images I find tomorrow and disabling the script after a day.
You guys will get results from me. I'm coding this from the ground up and I'll try to have a demo for you guys each day I work on it.
So far, here's what I'm planning on making next.
Jan 5: File Uploader and add MySQL support to the image uploader. Make a table for users.
Jan 6: Create a basic registration system and integrate it with the File and Image uploaders.
Jan 12-13: Create actual mod database. This does NOT include a search system or a "front page" similar to garrysmod.org. I will just start to index the names of mods and the files they are associated with. This does include the mod pages themselves though. At this point, the Mod DB WILL be able to be used for what it was intended for. I will start a closed beta at this time. I will PM people I am inviting sometime that weekend.
Jan 19-20: Search system
Jan 26: Rating System
Jan 27: Front Page
Feb 2-3: Aesthetics, possible 1.0 release.
Feb 9-10: Misc. Improvements, User Pages, Definite Release
I promise this will happen. It's time that Data Realms had a Mod Database.

As soon as you have the general layout worked out, I'll get to work on buttons and the like.

If you can do the graphical stuff TLB, that would be fine. Send me a mockup.

I'm a few steps ahead of you. Do you want to consolidate our efforts? I'm already passed the uploader, database backend, and user registration system.

Ok THOR, but I'm still going to go ahead and code my own version. This was as much as a personal development project as it was for Data Realms. I'll talk to you IIRC.

If anyone is interested in collaborating, PM me on forums or get at me on IRC and I will get you up to speed. We could use some dedicated, semi-experienced programmers.

Project Info:
PHP/MySQL-based file uploader. Must have experience with general web design, database management and deployment, and PHP web programming.

Eventually, we will need some of you devilish children to break this for us and tell us how you did it. Don't ask to right now.

Okay, once you guys give me a general idea of all the features and such, I'll work on a mockup.
By the way, if there's anybody who wants to help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Many computer mice make for light work.

Bah, scratch my working on my own project. I'll just join THOR.
TheLastBanana, if you want to get started on creating some graphical elements for the website, I suggest that we start with the basics.
Icons:
- Something to designate that a process completed successfully.
- Something to designate an error.
- Something to designate that the website is doing something.
- Something for adding a mod.
- Something for removing a mod.
- Something for getting to a help page.

Alrighty, I can do that.
I'll keep you posted in this post.
EDIT: Ah, yes, about how big should these be?

Again, I'd like some others to help me as well, a whole website is kind of a big project for one person if we want it to be done soon.
