Also, this isn't exactly a useful mutation for the virus unless it can go back to humans, which isn't for sure. not what I meant. It might have always been able to do that, and we never noticed. The reason I mentioned the mutation bit is, if it mutated this fast, it can mutate again, or anyone infected with a different strain that can mutate, might mutate to become more dangerous. Do you guys remember playing Pandemic? yeah, you give them mild-ass symptoms, wait till it's everywhere, and then BAM you mutate a lot. Real virus do NOT work that way. Each case can mutate, and they mutate at different rates. If the bulk of H1N1 patients have a strain that is fast mutating, we can get a wide variety of strains of flu, which means Diagnosis, and vaccination becomes more difficult. If there are different strains, you could catch h1n1, and then later, catch a different strain. if your constantly ill, you are at greater risk of pneumonia, and thus, greater risk of a symptom known as death. But as is always the case, it's a ♥♥♥♥ guessing game. also, as to this being a joke thread. That makes you a troll. you have trolled us all into seriously considering this post, and giving serious replies, so you can laugh at us. your still a troll and an ass. if you can't take something seriously, don't talk about it, and don't try to get others to talk about it, because you don't belong in it. also, Picture someone with AIDS getting H1N1, and they mutate together and create an Airborn aids virus.

Didn't a cat already have a confirmed case of Swine Flu? Benpasko wrote: pfft, pros play pandemic by picking parasite, giving it NO symptoms, and waiting until it hits every country. THEN UNLEASH THE FURY OF THE FUNK!!! Yea except for that damned Madagascar. Even if it does nothing, countries still pick up on it.

Re: EVERYBODY PANIC: Two dogs in Beijing have H1N1
Just because there is an incentive to propagate fear doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't some cause for any fear at all. I get that fear sells and I get that the way it's being sold now is largely based of overdramatic claims and projections, but the fact of the matter is that this is a new strain of flu which spreads differently, requires new methods of treatment, and is adapting quickly to inhabit multiple host species - although these features don't spell inevitable doom by a long shot, they are symptoms of a developing pandemic and warrant some concern. The chances may be slim, but if frequent reports on H1N1 on the news have any impact on getting people to act in responsible ways which will prevent the disease's spread, I think it's well worth losing a bit of dignity. Pandemics can be very troublesome things. I see a lot of people pointing out that H1N1 is curable and largely non-fatal. If we are fortunate, it will stay this way, but even then, a non-lethal pandemic could be economically devastating just as a consequence of people being unable to show up for work. Already in America, entire college campuses are getting bedded because of H1N1. Because of this, anyone with any type of flu on my campus gets quarantined to their room immediately. These students don't get to go to class - it's a waste of their money and they miss out on learning, but imagine the impact of a similar situation in our workforce.
So just remember that deadliness is not the only factor. In many cases it is actually in a disease's favor to not kill the host. With modern sanitation and living conditions, it's much harder for a disease to travel from one host to another, so hosts need to stay alive and mobile longer. For example, most strains of cholera in the United States are non-lethal because diarrhea does not cycle back into our drinking water supply as easily as it used to - as result of this friendly adaptation, most of you reading this right now have probably had cholera before, though you probably don't even know it.

Re: EVERYBODY PANIC: Two dogs in Beijing have H1N1
^^ Totally agree.
Of course, the standard flu and common cold and a dozen other viruses are much more widespread pandemics, cause much more financial and economic harm, and our attention being focused on them would produce much, much better results. Who knows -- what if the common cold turned into a deadly strain tomorrow?
The simple truth is, any argument you can apply to H1N1 can apply to the standard flu, X10. The only one that doesn't work is "It's new" and "It has a scary name." I mean seriously, fox news calls it the
H1N1 HUMAN INFLUENZA VIRUS
Hell even calling it influenza is fear mongering..
Also: "Pandemic" according to WHO is "any disease or virus that has reported cases in more than one country". I think people believe the word "pandemic" is far worse than it is.

Re: EVERYBODY PANIC: Two dogs in Beijing have H1N1
Doesn't that mean that nearly every serious virus is technically a pandemic?

The H1N1 did mutate... Someone in The Netherlands died from a mutated version. He didn't infect anyone else. I hope.

Dont worry about H1N1, Worry about the Return of Influenza Strain A, Subtype of H1N1 Code: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1918_flu_pandemic Now That is what we need to fear. 3% of the GLOBAL Population died from that thing.

Step 1. Highlight my post. Step 2. Notice the lack of edits. Step 3. I didn't think this far ahead.

Step 1. Only ♥♥♥♥♥♥s of wood put text in happy color and try to cover their backs with it Step 2. Only ♥♥♥♥♥♥s of wood quote other people's posts when they're directly replying to them Step 3. Therefore only bassoons are MiG-15 so anti-tank guided missile Eumeta crameri organ stop.
