Re: Playstation 3
They dropped the whole COD thing. The next one is just Modern Warfare 2.

Re: Playstation 3
Falcon: No, I've played single-player versions of BF, and they're all great. I'm guessing, then, that you're referring to the community/players of online FPS games. There's no chance in hell you'll be able to ever find a popular online game that only lets in the cool people who can resist the temptation to throw grenades at a dead person's crotch and scream obscenities about the other team's mothers into their headset. It might get annoying or detract from the overall experience, but you have to look at the game itself; judging it by the players isn't entirely fair.

I was actually disappointed by CoD5. Not as fun as CoD4, but zombie is good.
Heavy Rain looks awesome, btw. And how is it in anyway linear?

QUICKTIME. EVENTS. Before you're all "DOHOHO YOU CAN FAIL EVENTS" shut up.
It's like telling someone that just because a game has two hallways in it it's not linear. AND THE TWO HALLWAYS ARE SIDE BY SIDE.
Also, CoD:WaW = treyarch, not infinity ward. It was pretty ♥♥♥♥, but who's surprised? CoD3 certainly was.

Re: Playstation 3
Well, I've always considered a non-linear game to be a game with no lines whatsoever; as in, it's not that you can pick and choose which line to be next or that the lines are scattered around a huge area, but that no direction is given as to what is to be done next.
I doubt I own any such games, as pure nonlinearity is not a good game feature in most genres today. The definition of non-linear gameplay as used by the gaming industry is pretty much impossible to define concisely, and is one of those nice, comfortable buzzwords that somewhere around half of all games sport as a defining feature.
I would rant farther, but I'll end this now by saying that Infinity Ward makes good games, and Treyarch less so.

Re: Playstation 3
Concept of a completely linear game cannot exist within the construct of a computer. The whole basis of a computer is a foundation of rules. By implementing said rules, you cannot have a truly non-linear experience.
Even life itself is a linear game. Sure, it is the most open-ended experience possible, but you are still constrained by rules of law, culture, and personal morals.
Just sayin'. For discussion.

Re: Playstation 3
woah dude deep
But no lets not do that, then peeps will be all like "Life is linear, everything was decided when the first two hydrogen atoms smashed into each other" and other dudes would be like "no u god did it" and we'd have a big poop.
Lets just say that Heavy Rain is less linear than GTA IV or Oblivion, in my eyes.

Quantum effects are unpredictable.
Anyway, a good definition of a linear game is one where the player cannot significantly change the plot.
