I noticed that most of America was covered in blue dots, whereas the deep south was completely red.

Both candidates were pretty poor. Lacking experience and not radical enough to actually change something.
Although, Obama was the best of the two.

I find it interesting how 97% of African-Americans voted for Obama (according to exit polls), yet everyone is saying that racism and prejudice is being defeated as we speak. If anything, one group of prejudiced is canceling out the other.

Also, I hate undefined change with a passion (with a passion). And I hate some of Obama's proposals for change. Offering tax cuts for the vast majority of America while proposing expensive sweeping programs and saying that taxing huge corporations will somehow make all of it doable without plunging us further into debt is beyond me. And before you go and say that tax breaks for huge corporations robs the country (or, rather, the "taxpayer") of billions of dollars, start looking at how much those corporations actually pay in taxes. Same deal with the rich, really.

Honestly, why do people say that a progressive tax is patriotic because it makes the rich may more? They'd pay more in a flat tax, too.

Ultimately, I don't trust a candidate who wins via the self-interest principle. Obama was out to please as many potential voters as he could with his proposals. And I'm not saying anything about McCain, because I don't like him much, either.

Really, Palin was what made Obama the only sensible choice, if it weren't for her idiocy, McCain could have won.

Exactly what my parents had to say about the whole thing.

True that. I STILL don't have a good reason why McCain picked her. Does anyone care to explain me a good one? You don't pick a women running mate just because she's a women, which I assume is why he picked her.

I wasn't really pulling for Obama, but then again, I didn't really care all that much. I mean, if he messes up the country real bad, then we just need to get our asses in gear and not vote him into office again right?

But, his tax increase kinda goes against my morals. If you work your ass off for something, god dammit you should keep all of it. But, i guess this country does need money, and there isn't a better way to do it.

Wanna hear a political joke? It is said that the messiah will come again (in some religions) after the abomination. HA more like OBAMAnation! PMSL.

it's 36% vs 40% for top earners

basically the same rate we had during Clinton and years back

if you want to complain about the income tax being progressive, take it up with abraham lincoln

he introduced the tax and it's been progressive from the start afaik

Conservative forum, eek
Truth is, Obama really isn't that liberal. Sure people say he's the most liberal member of the senate, but then they forget that America has been shifting farther and farther right over the past 50 years. Obama is actually more conservative in some respects than Nixon!

Saying that America's president doesn't matter in Australia very much is SO far from the truth. You know this economic crisis that is goin on now all over the planet? That started right here.
As for Russia, why the hell would they ever nuke us? Even during the cold war they would never have nuked us. No one gains anything through nuclear war. That's why it has never happened. (if someone wants to argue, I have more I can say)

Taxes should be progressive. The people who spend millions of dollars on cars and mansions should give a little more to support the people they made their money off of. Walmart Executives, for example, only can afford their massive salaries because they pay their employees so little and give them crap health care plans. Also, our debt is so deep that pretty soon we will be like France pre-revolution, with 50% of our budget going to interest. If anything, I would raise taxes for all but the poorest of Americans.

And how can you call Obama an idiot? Neither Obama nor McCain is stupid. Palin maybe. But both the major candidates have proven themselves worthy of the highest office in the land. And if you say Obama hasn't been tested, then what were we doing for the past 2 years?
I used to like McCain. He might not have been as mavaricky as he claims, but he did seem to be less partisan than other republicans, and I wish he won the nomination in 2000. During the campaign I could see all his beliefs get corrupted by the arch conservative republican party. But his concession speech seemed to be the real McCain and I'm glad he's back to normal.

Why I agree with everything this kid above me says--its still mostly conjecture and opinion. You and I might agree, but that doesn't make it true.

Those that would be affected by a larger progressive tax on the upper class feel that they worked hard for their money and shouldn't have to pay for people to work less hard. You and I (and other fiscal liberals) dont feel that way, but just because us and them don't agree doesn't make one of us wrong. Compromise is the heart of the democratic system.

Alternatively, this forum is only conservative because most of them are children and are only exposed to that which parents allow them.

Fun fact: a tax of 10,000 dollars per citizen of the United States would supply the budgetary needs of the entire United States during 2007.

However, to pay off the 10 trillion dollar national debt, each citizen (now, this is counting children) would have to pay 33,333 dollars.

Also, laughs: California has the largest number of electoral votes, and sided with Obama, yet voted in favor of a ban on gay marriage. There are also only two predominately republican counties in California. I live in one of them.

Now any time I read Grif's posts, I'm going to imagine some 'surfer dude' saying them.
