Pretty much they're all like that. Go around, kill things, solve puzzles, beat the game.
And saying that the reviewers don't know what they're talking about is the most idiotic statement I've ever heard. Unlike you, they play everything they find. They go to E3, they interview developers and keep track of release dates to make sure they get every single video game on the market. They've been through all the worst and when they see a good one they know it.
The story was actually quite well done and written, not to mention Bethesda has been doing this since the early 90s. They have a huge background about Tamriel and Cyrodill and have taken the time to write all about the lands from Elsewyer to Skyrim and the island of Vvardenfeld in Morrowind.
