Re: Dwarf Fortress
Okay stop fighting. Point stands that the graphics ruined FX's ability to see what the hell was what. (Well, well, he can't see a well...) And just because they don't change gameplay doesn't mean they aren't mods. Definition of modification: the state of being modified; partial alteration. Partial. Alteration. That's what a graphics pack is. Partially altering the game's graphics for those of you who can't learn to read the ASCII. I just don't understand it. There's absolutely no valid reason you can't see a moving smiley face icon and associate it with a dwarf. Or O==O and associate it with a wall. tl;dr: Quit your whining and learn to play the game the way it's meant to be played. (Lol Nvidia) The rules that were agreed upon at the beginning state there's no mods allowed. It doesn't matter who came up with said rules, they're the rules. A graphics pack changes the graphics, therefore it's a mod. Which means graphics packs aren't allowed.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm all for equality. But the graphics packs just don't help at all in this instance.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
Mods as in modifications as in to the game. The only circumstances that I can think of where changes on par with the graphics pack would disqualify a person would be changing textures in an FPS style game so that heads are white or something.
As FalconX is leaving, we go back to the old save and someone else starts their turn. Kallemort, 21GP, TrouserDemon, Skiv, and Octyl have precedence in that order.

3. If you don't like it, I have a solution. Don't use them. I just like to use them because it makes the game look better.
4. GFX is hardly a mod, because it doesn't change gameplay AT ALL. It just upsets you because it's different and strange. I agree whith all of this, I don't even play but I like to see what is going on. I need a link to the download of that exact GFX pack so I can see what the hell I'm doing.

Daman doesn't matter, Jay doesn't matter, and Alenth said they arern't allowed if they break the game. If you don't want to play, don't, idc. But you can.

What.
You can use the goddamn tilesets, now shut up.
Also who is taking the turn? Use the upload from the end of Daman's turn.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
*cough* ok I'll take it a go. I'll post pics and important things here, in this post *9th Granite, 1054, Early Spring*The new town liason from moutainhomes has come to Windgriffons. "OK maggots, I will be here for a year now! Praise you dont screw something up!" He already assigned 3 marksdwarves, and assigned them to "The Cloisters of Hoistings" Squad *12th Granite, 1054, Early Spring*Logem Akn–n—shrir, Butcher is taken by a fey mood! He has claimed the Mason's shop. *14th Granite, 1054, Early Spring*And elven Caravan has came, i have no idea what we need from them... In other news, out fey mooded dwarf runs around the whole fortress (which is very huge) in search of STONES... i sure hope he dies from something.... *9th - 17~th Granite, 1054, Early Spring*I assigned to smooth the walls at the bedrooms. I'm sure the drarves sleeping there will be happy to live in this room. *21st Granite, 1054, Early Spring*The wood chopping is getting along, also, there is a huge area with unused wood, a little closer than the first one We will use this one for the supply of wood for another 2 years i think OH gooddy, our moody dwarf want a) logs b) bones c) shells d) cut gems... WE NEED CUT GEMS!! *4th Slate, 1054, Early Spring*Woopie do, we have a Dungen Master his name is Edem Erarlikot, along with some migrants. Now the town liason has to go to sleep. He will be back in couple of hours. I hope nothing happenes in our fortress while he is away...like a huge explosion or something :/

Re: Dwarf Fortress
While I won't argue considering I'm not part of the succession because I much prefer total control, the tilesets do pose a disadvantage to those using them. We saw it with Falcon: Stuff that's normally different tiles turns into the same tile with the gfx pack.
I still don't understand what's so hard to learn about symbols.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
What are you still talking about?
Also, in the middleish area of the grand stairs, i found gems in the clif. you need some fancy mining to get them, but its worth it.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
Well, I'm not that great a player, but neither can I play without the graphics pack. I'd say that having the pack DEFINITELY shallowed the learning curve for me, and I'm glad I have it. I don't really see how such a pack would change this game overly much. If it gives someone a slight advantage over everyone else, then what's the problem? It's a succession game. Thus, we work together to make an awesome fortress (or whatever else we happen to want).
In other news, I happen to find this entire argument rather funny. Arguments here often are.

Re: Dwarf Fortress
Graphics can distingush what role/job a dwarf has, instead of having 100 's you have representations of what they actually do, for example, you could easily spot the mayor. Thus I think not using graphics is fine, but it is harder to tell what each dwarf is. The only reason not to use them is because you think they look retro and like it or you consider yourself more elite. Graphics (in "raw") only change the way creatures and civilisations look, so everything else will look the same. Once again I see no reason to not change the graphics, I understand if you want to keep the creatures as ascii, but I think changing the civilisations is very helpful.
