How old you've got to be to buy a rifle? 18?

To officially buy one, you have to be 18.

But you can get them from pawn shops, just tell them you're 18, most owners won't care.

18 for rifles/shotguns/etc., 21 for handguns (at least in Wisconsin; at least in Vermont, you can buy a rifle at 16). And as of recently (beginning of this month, actually) you can openly carry the weapon in your vehicle without a permit, so long as it is unloaded and such.

That means that I'm less than 1 year, $2000-$3000 and a ticket to USA away from a rifle!

Why not just find someone you know in the US who owns guns, and go to a firing range with them? Quite a bit cheaper.

It's not the same.
I'd love to own a rifle. You know, you never know when will be the next zombie, alien or communists invasion.

Are you moving to the US? I'd imagine that transporting firearms out-of-country would be a ♥♥♥♥♥.

Yeah, I think it's relatively easy to get a long gun like a shotgun or semi-automatic rifle. Anything that's easily concealable (like a pistol) or automatic is a bit harder to obtain.

And don't even let me get started on automatic pistols.

Yeah, there's a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ you have to deal with when it comes to automatics. For instance, Wisconsin's laws are really vague - it says something about being able to own a machine gun without intent to use it aggressively, excluding pistol calibers, after saying that all machine guns are banned and so it's a bit of a grey area. And if you want an automatic weapon, it has to have been manufactured pre-'89 and they're crazy expensive. I see automatic AKs go for a little over ten grand, and that's cheap.
