25th Malachite, 1051.
The plans are laid out for the first few levels of a tremendous stair-hall to access the trees. It will
be wide enough to be made wagon-acessible, and we are moving all workshops towards that side of the witer-pipe.
After this move, we will have proper stockpiles for the workshops, and our eating, sleeping, and meeting areas
will be a reasonable distance away from them.
Food production is staying on the north side though, since the farm is there.
16th Galena, 1051.
I am a GENIUS. I have drawn out designs for our leader so that she and her fellow miner can get the workshops
set up in an arrangement allowing for everything to be on two floors, and separating the input and output at
the same time. Each individual workshop can be sealed individually without interfering with the others too.
Maybe I should start to think more about the fact that we have so much vertical space, but I don't want to
force us to make homes in a place where we happen to come across coal just because there is no other plan.
I set a lot of the useless immigrants to work smoothing the halls, or fishing. Hopefully the miners will
finish the area for the fishery soon.
17th Galena, 1051.
A preview of what will one day be our rooms.
26th Galena, 1051
One of out miners, Tun Uristduthal, found bloodstone in an area designated for a workshop today, I we'll mine
it all out and seewhat the room we are left with is suitable for I suppose. It's not even designated as
anything other than an empty workshop room anyway.
When I was talking to her I noticed that she had a little trinket that identified her as a worshipper of Ruzos.
She's got to be a feminist.
No sooner was I sitting down to write this than she came hurrying back, saying that there was also a chyroprase
cluster in the same area. Maybe we can trade for wood, at this rate.
I've also had then start working on a more reasonably sized path from one side of the fort to the other. No need to
crawl over each other to get around this palce.
27th Galena, 1051.
Kittens, maybe we'll eat them, maybe not. Considering that cats can kill ratmen we might keep them around.
I wonder how many cats it would take to kill an ettin?
1st Limestone, 1051.
Six months in this Armok abandoned wasteland. The staircase is done being designed, but I don't think it will
be finished before I leave.
Hopefully the food and drink production I have set up will be sufficient for getting us through winter, and I
am going to get the well finished before I go, just in case we need it.
Still no fuel.
27th Limestone, 1051.
Merchants arrived a while back, but I couldn't mention it since I was so busy trying to make sure we would have
a trade depot in time to get supplies from them.
We have finished a plain staircase down the cliff to access a large number of trees while we wait on the miners
to make the major stairs that will serve as a highway within the mountain.
I've been busy helping to make crafts too, so that we can actually have something to trade to the merchants.
Masonry work is getting hard to come by lately.
It's rather notable that, while waiting for the trade depot to be built, the swordsdwarves from the caravan
cleaned out most of the ratmen, troglodytes, and even mountain goats.
2nd Sandstone, 1051.
One of the swordsdwarves went berzerk on the troglodytes today.
He even knocked one clear over the chasm made by the brook.
18th Sandstone, 1051.
With no knowledge of our items worth, I think I just made the merchants angry, at least they liked the
mechanism I gave them at the start. Now they are gone, and we are hardly doing any better with food reserves.
Hopefully the farm picks up soon.
21st Sandstone, 1051.
The glassmaker was attacked by a troglodyte, I yelled at him to westle with it, between him, his cat, and the
troglodytes' stupidity, he came out alive. He is now the first member of our military, since somehow he also
decided to be a wrestler in the fight.
This marks the end of the troglodyte band that shared the plateau with us. Only goats remain.
Also the damned brook froze, and I never did get the well mined. Our farmer had better speed up.
20th Timber, 1051.
WE WILL HAVE BEDS!
I finally got the carpenter to go back to his usual trade, and told him to make enough beds for the fifteen of
us. Hopefully there won't be too many migrants, if any. I want to get some metal made soon.
23rd Timber, 1051.
Our first casualty at this fort was a puppy. Someone at dinner mentioned that the puppy wasn't with it's
mother, so I went out and scanned the area this morning. It's pretty dead.
It lost it's front left leg, part of itself, and a lot of blood to a giant bat far, far to the southwest.
Hopefully the bat stays over there.
26th Timber, 1051.
Armok save the mentally incapacitated dwarves I am here with. My orders to gather bodies from outside for
their bones apparently overpowers their survival instincts. As I write, our bone carver Datan Delerker is
standing right next to the giant bat that killed our puppy. Not sure what is going to happen, I would tell
him to fight, but I think that doing so would only seal his fate...
Ok, the bat is now chasing him, I might tell him to fight just to stop him from luring it back to the fort.
I sent out Minkot, our wrestler, hoping that he would be able to overcome the beast, but I was sadly mistaken.
We no longer have a military.
I am going to lock down the fortress immediately. Maybe the traps in the doorway will kill the bat now called
Delethnonub.
The Bone Carver is safe though, but I fear that we would all have been safer if I had just let him lure the bat
into the traps.
7th Moonstone, 1051.
Winter is here, and my time as co-leader is almost over. The farm is picking up, and the Grand Stairs are
well underway. We just need a new source of wood, since the old staircase is not safe to access right now.
13th Opal, 1051.
I've made some things for my room, and I smoothed my walls myself.
We found Chrysoprase and Moss Agate in the stockpile room for stone and wood today. I just wish these things
were worth enough to actually trade.
19th Opal, 1051.
That bat really needs to go away.
21st Opal, 1051.
The Grand Staircase is finished, now we can trap it to Armoks' delight and maybe open it up.
I hadn't mentioned this before, but everyone has bedrooms, too.
24th Obsidian, 1051.
The snowstorm cleared today, reminding me that I hadn't written anyting down for a while.
My time here is almost up, for whoever comes next, the lever near the entrace is used to seal it. Right now
it is pulled, since everything is still on lockdown, although I haven't heard anything about the giant bat
recently.
Of the four in the dining hall, the one in the northwest is meant for what will eventually be a well. The
shaft is dug and everything, just need to channel out the last floor and place the well when we get some rope.
The other three are in this order: Farm door floodgate, brookside floodgate, cliffside floodgate.
We are down to five logs, after making a bed for each dwarf and a bucket.
The farm is keeping us alive. If not altogether happy. Check the kitchen orders when you arrive.
Sorry about all the crap in the hallways.
