Dead end job and a ♥♥♥♥smoking tyrannical ♥♥♥hole who pissed me off.

There was a guy who wanted to run things differently than how we normally close the shop, so I quit the day after I closed with a no call, no show, and left him with the blame.
I was supposed to work all week and the next, so that was my ♥♥♥♥ you to him. :???:

There are better paying jobs like working with my old man and community college.

I can't believe I ever wanted to go to a university, how insane.

I'm going to a community college and I'm unable to go to a university.

Looking back at it now, I'm glad I didn't have to waste so much money.

Quitting my job was part of my getting ahead in life get quick rich scheme.

Community colleges are just as good as universities.
Unless you're going for a REALLY specific major, you're better off going to a community college and saving youself years of debt.

i keep telling my friends this but they insist that getting a degree from a more prestigious college will land you better job opportunities
which it may, but i really, really doubt that any employer that requires more than an associate's degree is going to care where you got the associate's degree from, compared to a bachelor's, etc.

They actually did a study, and it turns out that employers really don't care.
If you earned a legitimate degree, it doesn't matter where it came from.

It only matters for some degrees, like business or law. Beyond those few, it doesn't matter a single bit.

I guess it mostly depends on the career you'll follow. At least over here it does matter where you study.

Well, from what I've heard (and experienced), as long as your program isn't totally shitty, you'll learn the major theoretical concepts, and then the stuff you'll actually do as a job will be taught to you while you're working. I learned a lot of important concepts and ideas in my curriculum but 95% of the day-to-day practical stuff I learned while working internships.

Where the degree comes from does not matter, that is true, but the quality of instructors, the learning environment and resources (libraries, journals, etc), and internship/research opportunities are way better at large universities than community colleges. Just having a degree is not worth much for many fields nowadays, it's experience that counts, and many employers have close relationships with universities that consistently produce high-performing workers. We have a three day career/internship fair at my school three times a year, for spring, summer and fall semesters. Everyone from Microsoft and Google to Raytheon, Boeing and the CIA shows up. And of course, professors can often offer research opportunities as well.

The trick is to be super smart and go to a private university that will cover all of your costs because they only have like 5000 students but billions in endowment/donations. Failing this, be super poor or an ethnic minority to get fat stacks of cash from public universities.

Well I started at a local college but go to a big university now and a lot of the instructors that taught at my college also teach at the university. It seems pretty common for professors to spend time at multiple schools, at least in my area. As for quality of teaching... I'm not a big sample size but from my experience it's roughly the same. Some amazing teachers, some complete shitters, and a lot of in between.

I finished Mass Effect 2 last night with my imported paragon Shepard. I'm surprised how almost every little side quest of the first one got mentioned in the game.

If only Mass Effect 3 was available on Steam ;-;
