There must be like infinite games like this since DayZ became a thing. At least in my case, I'm playing older games, mostly because I wanted to play games I knew when I was younger but never played, so I'm somehow living the childhood I didn't have with some games.

I'm reasonably sure that's been the way it's been for the past few decades. When a game does well, everyone makes "[game] but different", and a few others go in a different direction.

Like roguelikes. It loses the negative connotation of the term "minecraft clone" and becomes a genre.

Hah  My brother has a build that's pretty similar in power, he uses it to play Vicky 2. And speaking of Vicky, I'm going to have a go as the USA, since it's been years since I last played and I am curious what a communist/facist USA would be like to play :p But first, I'll have to get through those horrible laissez-faire years... shudder.
