I don't think I have to worry about counter-snipers when hunting deer.
Either way, AAS, so that you don't scare away the animals within an area for a few weeks. Move around, make it difficult to associate death with any single/small spot.
As far as animals go. I thought it was the heart shot that was the best.

Aiming for the heart is best yeah, iirc. Right behind the shoulder, you're very likely to hit the lungs, and a bit lower in the body is the heart. I don't think a .223 would have trouble killing a deer as long as you hit the heart, but if you hit a lung, you might have to leg it for a while since the deer's gonna bolt and take some time to bleed out.

Finally got myself an AR.
Cool, what manufacturer (not that I know much about any)? Is there a reason the barrel isn't coated?
Don't remember the manufacturer of the upper, but yeah, the barrel is stainless. 5.56 cal (ofc), 1/7 twist rate. The rear sight, stock, and grip are all Magpul, and the lower is a Spike's Tactical.

So, college. It's pretty boring. Don't need to try in any of my classes and most of my friends either have nothing to do or only want to party which, ♥♥♥♥ that, I'm not going to go chug disgusting drivel like Nat. Light when I live with people who can provide me quality alcohol. But I have so much time to Netflix ♥♥♥♥ that I recently watched all of Burn Notice, Death Note, Sword Art Online and Gurren Lagann in about a week, so there's that. Also I got stupid high amounts of financial aid so I just ordered this and am going to put it together over the weekend.
E: JK that list's old, I got a slightly better CPU, PSU and Windows 8.1 but close enough
