Re: The Lounge
You could even go for something like RPG maker for something like that, with almost no scripting required at all.

Re: The Lounge
Not sure if the RPG Maker would be too limited for what I seek. Games done with something like that aren't real games anyway, right?

Re: The Lounge
Haha, not real games. This guy. Obviously hasn't played Off. Yume Nikki and its fan sequels, Ao Oni, and Ib are all considered to be "not games", by many people beside indie, horror, and adventure gamers. There is gameplay, but not what impatient gamers will expect. I highly recommend giving Ao Oni a taste to maybe change your opinion of 'not games'.

Re: The Lounge
The skill comes from good game design, regardless of the medium in which it is made. I've used VX Ace recently, and it's seriously good, and I would use it if I ever wanted to make a game of anywhere remotely like its genre.

Re: The Lounge
rpg maker and game maker games can definitely be good, dont discredit them. look at these games, they should be pretty familiar and pretty much all of them are good, except maybe that savant one like roast said it comes down to the skill of the designer more than the thing youre making it with itself some engines and languages obviously have advantages over others when it comes to making a game depending on what you want, but personal skill is still a huge factor

Yeah. People have to understand Crab Nicholson's Extreme Sleepover was also made in GameMaker, and it was a pretty great text adventure game.

Re: The Lounge
Götze's goal was amazing. It was like, precise as ♥♥♥♥, considering how tight his position was how tight the angle was he had to score. Overall a good match.

Re: The Lounge
Faroe Islands > football
Anyway, is there a specific location for where to search for said prebuilt java engines, or am I better off getting to know Game Maker? I've screwed around with Multimedia Fusion 2 a bit, too.

Re: The Lounge
Mass Effect is fun. Lots of tough choices, hot space babes and many guns.

Re: The Lounge
Mass Effect is a great experience that tailors the details of the game to your decisions, but ultimately ends the same way. The design gives off the illusion of choice very well, and has captivated a generation as a result. I haven't played the Witcher, but heard its decisions are more difficult to make. Though it's hard for me to play a roleplaying game that doesn't exhaust many options. What if I want to kill an essential NPC and take over their mission? What if I want to kill both warring factions? It may take more effort to make those sorts of games not counting text RPGs, but I feel like there aren't enough. Neverwinter Nights and modded Bethesda games give me a lot of roleplaying options in this respect. I will never forget my quest to turn Windhelm into my undead army, as I mount a black soul gem containing Ulfric Stormcloak on my throne.

Re: The Lounge
Mass Effect has less variety inversely proportional to its iterations.
Witcher actually has delayed consequences.
I sincerely doubt you can have much rp/story fluidity even in modded Skyrim.
