Re: The Lounge
The only time my district closed for temperature alone (while I was alive, at least) was when it was -40, and even then, that was only when it was halfway through the day and parents had been complaining for a few hours.

In Georgia, it's more like "2 inches of snow? HOLY ♥♥♥♥, WE'RE ALL ♥♥♥♥. CLOSE DOWN THE AIRPORTS, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, AND WHATEVER ELSE IS VITAL. NO ONE IS GOING ANYWHERE."

Re: The Lounge
I ♥♥♥♥ hate our district. If we get ridiculous amounts of snow, EVERY district surrounding us gets cancelled but we don't. It's just lame. And then you have to stand at your bus stop for tens of minutes longer than you normally do if you can't get a ride, and then everybody is half an hour late to school.

Re: The Lounge
What's that? You Americans don't go to school when there's too much snow? Weirdos. It's just our normal winter day that the bus is half an hour late.

Nonsequitorian wrote: Wait. No. TLB. I really don't understand. That's not the worst I've seen in Canada in terms of snow*. What section do you live in? We often get horrible winds in my town. Howling, whistling, really fast winds. They blow trees down constantly, even when they don't have leaves on them. The record for cold that my house endured was -40 degrees. Yeah, we get winds, too. I live in an urban area (Edmonton), so the wind gets broken by the buildings, but if you were to venture a little out of the city, it would be a lot worse. I think the lowest temperature in recent memory here was -50 degrees Celcius, although that was with wind chill. -40 isn't out of the ordinary, though. Also, fun fact: schools aren't allowed to close for snow days here, because of concerns that somebody may get confused and come to school only to find that it's closed, then freeze to death. In my entire school career, I had a single "snow day", and that was really only because the power went out. It just happened to be snowing heavily at the time. Of course, we had gone to school anyway, so we had the pleasure of walking through knee-deep snow in a blizzard for 20 minutes back from the school.

Wait, why did you go to school if it was closed?

Re: The Lounge
Like I said, it wasn't closed. The schools never close for snow, and the power outage was only local to my school's area. They didn't actually announce that it was closed until we got there.

Re: The Lounge
This one is awesome. Here it barely ever snows. It's more common that rivers will get much more water and begin flooding everything.
