It is indeed possible to write the whole script of Hamlet with a bunch of monkeys.

That is, as long as they're using the same typewriter.

50/50 isn't necessarily a bad deal (an 80/20 split actually sounds pretty absurd to me).

Most publishers take huge cuts, especially if you don't already have a good track record. For instance, with games, online publishers usually take at least a 30% cut. But if you're distributing hard copies, or if your publisher is doing any sort of broad-scale marketing for you, then there's no way you're going to get a deal that good. I seem to recall hearing BioWare gets around a 40/60 split (in favour of EA), and that's for a company that has proven they can rake in millions on every game they release.

From anything I've heard, books and music are even worse with regards to how much money the publisher keeps. So it does kind of depend on what you're getting published, and through what channels (digital? physical?).

"anniversary of previous life's birthday" is a bit of a mouthful and to be honest they are both functionally for the same purpose

Does anyone else have extreme difficulty falling back to sleep in the night?

I woke up around four in the morning and didn't fall back to sleep till eight. Then I got up at 7:15 PM.

Yeah, going to bed too late does that. Tire yourself out then go to bed at early to get up early/at a normal time next day and keep that up to fix. Easier said than done ofcourse, but it works.
