I think it would be a close match, depending on who got the first shot in, but if I had to bet on one of them, it would be the gorilla.

Depends who gets the drop on who really. But I'd place my bet on the bear.

Some highlights:

- Gorillas use fake ferocity to intimidate. Bears are actually ferocious.
- Gorillas are primarily peaceful and will opt to run, so is typically a wuss. Bears attack without provocation.
- Gorillas are primarily herbivorous and almost never kill things. Bears kill for a living every day.
- Gorilla teeth and jaw strength are a fraction of a bears (see above)
- Bears have a longer reach, and that reach is tipped with razor sharp claws. Even a glancing blow from a bear can kill.
- Bears are surprisingly fast; gorillas don't have much of a reflex advantage.
- Gorillas can't "read" bears because they have very few "tells" like facial expression and body language. Gorilla intelligence isn't enough to overcome the situation.

If the gorilla was TRAINED to fight specifically bears, I think it would have a chance. otherwise, no. No chance.

But then comes the question:
If the gorrila had a gun, wo would win?

i was gonna go with the bear, because bears have claws, gorillas kinda don't.... but now after reading what weasel said.... yeah, I'm definitely going with the bear.

Weasel, the opening statement said nothing about gorilla attack-training.

and at lizard, it said nothing about guns. or fire-arms training.

If you could magically infuse understanding and knowledge of all situations and combat possibilities ("I know Kung fu") into BOTH the bear and the gorilla, I'd say the gorilla has a better chance, but it's still a chance (maybe 30-40%); the gorilla has more options and is slightly more dexterous.

Without any sort of training though, I'd say the gorilla only has 5-10% chance of victory, if that.

But what if he had a gun?

Yeah then he would own.
