Re: Attention those who have lots of music!
Well, I could give you some for mental/emotional pain, but then, who can't.
Stakes and Torches (the Uprising of the Peasants) by Voltaire fits the orchestral bill (violin, cello, etc.) and the general black plague era. Give it a try. I'm not sure how easy it would be to find, since the album, though recent, is self-released. His other stuff also has cello/violin and such, but it more deals with stuff not involving pain and death, except in satirical terms. You're to the point where it's just too specific to be able to find the perfect song. Good luck on your search!

If you want something somewhat experimental, I highly suggest you find the Bodysong Soundtrack by Johnny Greenwood.

awesome song. This. Go listen to it now. Although it has no real build-up it's still awesome. I know it's got guitar in, but you could also try Shrinking Universe (also Muse). It was used in the 28 weeks later trailer. The thing is, you should choose the song first, THEN do the animation, because not every song will fit with what you're doing.

Funnily enough what I posted was posted before the op told us Quote: To be a bit more specific on the genre, I want a kind of orchestral piece, because my project is set during the Black Plague. Dammit, never mind. Useless post is useless.

Anything from Mamma Mia. It's running in the background now (♥♥♥♥ family movies), and suicidal thoughts are running through my head.
Is that dark enough?
