In fact, since I'm running Windows Vista (queen of the memory ladies) when playing intensive games (Crysis). explorer.exe is the backbone of Windows. If it's fudge up, Windows is fudge up. explorer is tied into absolutely everything. And plus it doesn't matter what the problem breaks, you should fix it anyway, in case it gets worse. Backbone of Windows?! You don't even need it to run the ♥♥♥♥ operating system. Try to go a day without it.

Re: problems with Explorer.exe
It's the thing that keeps all the icons and stuff up. For now, I have a temporary solution (just manually running explorer.exe). We are getting a new computer soon anyways.

I was actually just going to end that process. What's it do, anyway?

Re: problems with Explorer.exe
...impossible. Maybe it just doesn't show up in your task manager for protection so you don't get rid of it? venn177 wrote: I was actually just going to end that process. What's it do, anyway? Think about it: NT OS KRNL.exe NT Operating System Kernel. It's the main OSs kernel...

Re: problems with Explorer.exe
You know what? Apparently Vista doesn't need or have ntoskrnl.exe, 'cuz it's not in my list of programs. ... In other words, I've been going 1+ years without it.

Well sorry Mrs. ♥♥♥♥♥, I made a mistake, how could I? And you still think that explorer.exe is the core of Windows?! You don't need it at all, just go to the task manager, new task, and type in whatever .exe you want to be launched.

Re: problems with Explorer.exe
Well if we're gonna debate the skeletal structure of modern Windows installs, svchost.exe is sort of the beating heart of the whole thing.
