It's also said that it can be remedied by any flu medicine.

It's flu that came from pigs, nothing more or less. The major worry, I think, is that people will be more susceptible to it because it's a new strain that did not evolve directly from human strain, thus being unfamiliar to immune systems. Thus, more people will get sick for longer.

Through several seconds of half-assed research, Ive made the discovery that facebook is an idiot. http://www.facebook.com/s.php?ref=searc ... 497e9af1c6

it's worth noting that the virus is capable of mutation and will likely do so
the first wave of the 1918 flu didn't do ♥♥♥♥, then it came back and killed 100 million people

Yes, but mutation isn't a guaranteed occurance. Anyway, yes - the standard flu is potentially lethal when untreated in any way: even lying down and having a constant supply of water counts as treatment. The thing is, any kind of symptom is going to cause stress on the body: enough stress causes death.

the first wave of the 1918 flu didn't do crap, then it came back and killed 100 million people Thats exactly what's just about to happen, I've been doing some research and found Patient Zero of swine flu (H1N1) there is a theory bouncing around, that someone who caught that plague of flu in 1918 (which was also the H1N1 Flu) died, and before being found was eatten by a ♥♥♥♥ pig, which then carried the virus, which mutated slightly and infected the pig. That pig continued to spread and that strain of the flu made it to pigs in Mexico, where it apparently mutated BACK to what it was in 1918, and it reinfected people in mexico, and that's why they have had what 19 deaths in a week or 2... In short swine flu, is a minorly mutated version of the exact strain from 1918. NOW it's time to get scared people.

I didn't get that from the news jackass, and I was making a point. Swine flu = 1918 flu. its the same ♥♥♥♥ flu. thats all I was saying, and then explaining how it happened.

Except for the fact that the 1918 flu was an avian flu, not swine flu. They are most likely the same strain (H1N1), but that doesn't mean that they are identical. Any way you put it, the 1918 flu wasn't actually extremely deadly, it had a mortality rate of 2,5-5%. While high for a flu, it's not worrying unless it infects as many people as it did, so to say.

Re: Swine Flu: Blown out of proportion or Global Pandemic?
[walloftextwarningolo] @Shook: They are most definitely not identical. It's impossible to get the same strain of flu or any virus, actually, twice, as the body's memory B cells make antibodies after the first attack. The exception to this is if you have AIDS, in which case, your body can't do that. Anyways... most people have immunizations against a broad spectrum of the influenza virus strains, but with those damn viruses being microscopic from the perspective of a cell, they can mutate pretty damn easy and fudge up your whole immune system. Scientists can't make a vaccine too fast, either, with the strain being rather unique. All diseases have some kind of mutation threshold as to how fast they can change, and with viruses being so small, theirs is usually pretty low, meaning that many of the people infected probably don't even have the exact same virus. No one (at least, in the US with accsess to hospitals) as died as of yet, and any well-equipped medical staff has virus inhibitors that will null most of the fatal effects from the virus, so I'm not too worried yet. I also recently heard on CNN that this flu strain seems to be really wacky, as most of the people affected are in their 20's, 30's, and 40's, whereas strains of influenza most commonly target children and the elderly who have weaker immune systems. There is reason to be slightly worried, but not as much as many people are taking it. I think it's being blown out of proportion as the next major pandemic. [/walloftext] The hype is hilarious to watch, though.
