Lucky git. I had to do it back then. It was less about religion and more about being accepting of other cultures back then, though. Still, it took time away from the few subjects I did enjoy.

Elementary school teaches you basic life skills and important information. You start your social life and learn how to do math.
Middle school is an extension from this, you learn more. You get more in-depth in your classes, you learn about other countries and how to use variables and all that.
High school makes you cram information you don't need or really care about for whatever test is next because like NDT says,
Image
America's (as well as most countries that aren't, like, Finland. Finland has a great educational system.) educational system, rather, their entire SYSTEM in general and way of life values that piece of paper you get for your education more than it does for your actual knowledge. And based on this video's explanation of temporal discounting, it's likely that in high school you won't value that diploma as much as your future employer, or at least, not until it becomes relevant. It's quickly becoming clear that in high school you're working towards getting an A on your next paper, not learning from it. Because you don't have the time or effort to learn after you spent it all on your last 50 papers that you tried to get an A on. A lot of schools tell you when you ask them "Why do I need to know this?", "Because it will prepare you for [next stage of school]". And that next stage of school is only there to get you that fancy slip of paper with your name on it.
College is better because it gives a huge variety of choices and likely will get you somewhere you want to actually learn, but still forces you to (at least in the US) take classes you are entirely uninterested in. If you fail the math test they make you take, you have to take at least a year of remedial math classes which you must pay for, on your own, to learn in a class you probably don't want to learn in, that may or may not even ever come to play in your career choice, because you failed a standardized test that deems whether or not you're smart enough. You still have to take history classes to learn about the old world because that's "important". (Maybe for a trivia game.) Whether or not you value that information.

tl;dr: the school system sucks

I just found out that California's population is about 5 million more than Canada's population.

The school system sucks, yet I am in an alternative high school where I feel fulfilled learning. Too bad there are so many bigoted parents who see alternative high school as a haven for depraved children or something.

Thanks. It's going to be my Starbound character. Turns out there are codes to get neat clothing/armor in the character creator.

So feel free to carry on with the school stuff, I think it's pretty interesting, but I also I want to mention that KAG is shaping up pretty well. We've had a silent release on the forums for a week or so now and it's pretty fun.

Examples: Last week I hid in a crate which an enemy unwittingly picked up and carried it to base as loot. I popped out and set everything on fire with fire arrows and fire satchels.

Today I loaded up in an armoured boat with five other guys and went on a big assault on the enemy castle. One of our archers set fire to an enemy ballista sitting on a parapet and to prevent the fire from spreading the enemy builder manning the ballista pushed it off the castle, crushing one of my teammates under the flaming siege machine.

Well, Sothe, that's what the standard schools advertise them as alo. I guess they are alright, but because of what they are, they can get away with different builds than other schools.. be it good or bad, at least there is someone out there that can honestly try other systems, and see if they work, and can honestly say, "I have a smaller environment to work with, and I have less pressure than others to conform; my duty is to do, and try to do what is best for these kids, and well, by all means." Other advantages I guess is that they are a smaller environment, so it goes to reason they can better teacher to student ratios.

Also Contrary.. King Arthur's Gold? That reminds me, I need to buy that.
