Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
fine. guess i (tried to anyway) tugged the reins a bit hard.
it just seems better if everyone is on the same page, and i don't have a negative view of the military, i have plenty of friends and family in it.

My checklist for unrealistic zombie happenings: -Hear that zombies are afoot -Piss myself -Change pants -Grab shotgun, revolver, ammunition, and one of those fireplace stick objects -Fill both bathtubs upstairs -Grab a shitton of food from my pantry, load it upstairs (admittedly, I do not have a shitton of food in my pantry) -Get an axe from the shed -Go upstairs, destroy staircase (I can get down outside without the staircase) -Survive for a few weeks, drinking the water from the bathtub and eating the food that I do not have -Die, because I didn't think very far ahead, or -Decide to risk it and jump down -Get eaten by zombies

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
Allright, let me be a 'tad serious here for a sec. Cause i'm in that mood today.
Using generic anti-zombie logic, a shotgun would be ideal. Moar damaged tissue = moar death.
Most people would say SPAS12, cause it's semi auto and that's ♥♥♥♥ awesome. 8 shell tube magazine. Long reload time, short shoot time. 4.5 kilo unloaded. Relatively heavy.
A better alternative would be the less popular, but more awesome Benelli M3. Also semi auto. Still 8 shells in tube magazine. Still long reload, short action time. 3.5 kilo unloaded. That's three cans of food or a bunch of ammo extra you can carry.
Basically same effect in a lighter package. It also goes pump if you want to.
Less mainstream than that, the Saiga-12. Semi and sometimes full auto. 2, 5 or 8 shell detachable box magazine. Fast reload, more pew pew pew. Huge drum mags are available too, but that's silly and unreliable. And heavy. 3.6 kilos unloaded. That's still three cans of food or a bunch of ammo extra you can carry.
Epicly mainstream and even more shitty, the AA12. Yes, i know this is a instant pant-jizzer, but on closer inspection, it's just a really really really REALLY heavy Saiga-12. That's made in the USA, and of plastic and spoons.
Generally, i'd think shotguns aren't too wise unless you talk a sawed off double barrel at your side with like, six extra shells, for when ♥♥♥♥ REALLY hits the fan. They loose a lot of effectiveness beyond 25-35 meters. (Video games say 5-15 meters. They also say M4 is more accurate than AK at ranges from 20-50 meters). Use a proper rifle instead. AK74, 20" AR15 platform (cause M4 is ♥♥♥♥ and i hate it and it sucks cocks and shits where it eats and ect.) or something big in 7.62x51. Problem is, the bigger the round gets, the heavier the ammo and weapon becomes. I'd say M16 or AK74 is a golden middle-way for this job.
Post Scriptum: Don't use a modern HK weapon. If it breaks and you call customer support, they'll be complete clowns. And G36 melts, HK416 is a M4 in pretty clothes, XM8 is a design i could improve vastly on even after three bottles of wine, a handful of beer and an air guitar battle. Their pistols are too huge, their SMGs are too small.
Post post scriptum: Sniper rifles are stupid. A scope and bipod to attach to your M16/AK74, sure. A designated, HAAAIIIIGGGGH CAAAALUBER SNIPRAR RYYYFAL is dead-weight.
TL;IHAVEADHD: Use the standard weapon of the army of wherever you live.

So that would be the RK-96, and that would be an AK clone, and that would mean I am following your orders yay

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
Just grab a ♥♥♥♥ flamethrower and be done with it. As a bonus, with the right fuel, the corpses/whatever-you-set-on-fire will also be usable to cook food or stay warm. It has long(ish) range, it's quiet and it's deadly. The only disadvantage would be a lack of specialized fuel/propellant, but an agricultural use one would work perfectly, plus it would be relatively easy to find.

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
All of these ideas are silly. Almost all of your suggestions include going out and finding hard as hell to find ♥♥♥♥ (a minigun?!). I propose this simple solution: 1) Stock up enough food to last you until winter. 2) Get a baseball bat. 3) Smash frozen solid zombie ass until your arms get tired.
I don't know why Winter never seems to come up in zombie invasion scenarios. They have water in them, therefor they must freeze. This isn't that big of a deal, folks.

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
Curse my UK-ness and lack of easily-available firearms, miniguns and flamethrowers.
Loen, if we're talking OMGDOGMEN mentality zombies, like them there ones in the 28 series, I'd just vote for a spike trap, jammed in the ground and aimed in the incoming-runners direction. And razor wire.
And I just realised that the town I live is in filled to the brim with naval bases. I actually only live 5 minutes from one. Tall mesh fences, topped with razor wire, firearms, BATTLESHIPS (for the last escape aspect, not the "open fire on the zeds")... Thank you Grif for reminding me that the military is my friend.

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
Mmn, I'm in new zealand, near a naval base, and within 30km of a friends farm. I'll be able to get a gun and some cover in the event of an outbreak, assuming the infection or whatever doesnt get into the navy before i do, or out to my friends farm.. hmm. eh, we have some crowbars and bats at my place anyway. and a lawnmower, though i know for a fact that it doesnt work for long when rotated upwards <_< Hyperkultra wrote: And if it happens in Florida? or anywhere else where it doesnt get sub-zero?

Metal Meltdown wrote: Run to the sea. That happens. Zombies can't swim, so a decent distance out to sea should keep you safe on a raft or whatever, and you'd be close enough to the shore to go for supplies when needed, though a fishing rod and water treatment equipment should be pretty much all you need.

Re: (now a zombie killing effectiveness thread)
I lol'd at "wait until winter", Rawtoast. I'm in North Florida, arguably a 'cooler' area of Florida. Yesterday, November 1st a day well into autumn, it was over 80 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Huzzah, global warming!
I don't think zombies would ever really die from weather effects, save for the 'disaster' effects (eg earthquakes/tremors, hurricanes/cyclones/typhoons, tornadoes, etc)
But going to the sea is a pretty decent idea for those of us who live within 30 miles of the coastline. Zombies (the zombies we're talking about here, anyways) wouldn't be able to swim, so any distance out where the depth is greater than 10 feet makes you pretty much invulnerable. If you live in the city, away from water, hit up tall buildings. Zombies can't use elevators, after all! (Maybe stairs but if you barricaded the bottom entrance, or just got on a higher floor where zombies wouldn't even detect you, you would be safe.)
