Re: Image Dump (Caution Lots of Images) It's a molten mass made up of bits of melted reactor core.
Initially the mixture was emitting over 10,000 Roentgens per minute (500 roentgens in five hours is lethal). Pictures had to be taken through a mirror because the radiation would destroy any camera equipment and kill anyone close enough to look at it.
10 years later it was still going at 800 Roentgens per minute, horribly dangerous but at least "safe" to look at and photograph without instant death. Don't know what it'd be at now.
