Basically, it's the next newest social networking thingy. I hope it kicks Facebook's ass. Facebook sucks now.

Is anyone here part of the beta? I just got my invite around 20 minutes ago. It's pretty cool from what I can tell so far.

"It isn't facebook, but it's like facebook". At least until people spread it around and a mass migration happens. Then they'll be the exact same ♥♥♥♥.

I don't think people will bother to switch. All their stuff is on Facebook, and Facebook hasn't made a big enough blunder to have a lot of people waiting for a competitor.

Frankly don't see any point to it.

I'd use it, but like Duh said, I'm already entrenched in FB, and I don't really feel like starting anew.

Facebook is full of little middle school kids, elementary school kids, parents, and grandparents. You may not have been on it when it was mostly college and high school people, but the quality of everything was magnitudes better.

Take, for example, the recent integration of the chat system and private messaging. What the hell? Seriously? The private message system is supposed to be an exclusive thread between you and the people you choose for it to be between. The chat should be nothing more than an IM feature.

Also, the notification system. Remember when it used to have a single notification for each comment on something? Now it just gives 1 notification and says "blank blank and 23 other people commented on blank". The old way was much better. You could actually tell what was going on.

Oh, and remember when you didn't get farmville spam from people? Yeah you can block it but it started annoying as ♥♥♥♥. ALong with app spam are random friend invites from 3rd world countries. No, Ahkmed, you are not an attractive 23 year old supermodel and no I will not be your friend.

You can't say Facebook won't meet a death like MySpace. Like Facebook, MySpace was wonderful and great and made a bajillion dollars. MySpace was just the first social network to be around and thus died first. Facebook WILL inevitably suffer the same fate.

Eventually, yes. Soon? Not so sure about that.
All the problems you mentioned are problems with people, not the platform itself. You can believe me that you will get app message spam on any social network that has apps and ways for those apps to notify other people.
Hell, AOL is still around and that's been a laughing stock almost from the beginning. It still has a use, people are comfortable with the platform, and it didn't have any huge blunders that made people want to leave it (that is, desert it rather than just find other things to use).

Actually, deviantart is the oldest "social network" (friends systems, your own page and profile, etc etc) and it's still alive and kicking today.

I'm 19 and the first social network I can remember anybody using is MySpace. So there.

God, please, let google+ obliterate facebook.

Facebook's interface and all that is just fine tbh, it's an excellent example of user friendliness. What you should be bitching about is their licensing and ♥♥♥♥. Protip: Facebook owns the rights to every photo you upload.
