Well, you can, but it dosn't do much good after you've been almost mauled to death by a wombat. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-04-06/wombat-mauls-bushfire-survivor/2602206

Re: Happy Australia Day!
So I don't know if any of you guys live in or around Melbourne, but I'm going there on a quasi-vacation. Is there anything interesting around Melbourne?

When I think of Melbourne all I can picture is hipsters and yarn. I hope this helps.

Re: Happy Australia Day!
I do and not heaps.
There's a few good bars around if you're old enough for that sort of thing, and a casino, but this city's main attraction is better shopping than the rest of the country. Head out to Yarra valley or the Dandenongs and see the bush, it's nicer than town. If you're coming with friends there are vineyards and such through the Yarra valley as well, and if I remember correctly a pretty nice bakery.
At times I wonder why people play up the dangerous animals we have - they're really not that bad, the worst I've had animals-wise is getting bitten to ♥♥♥♥ by jumping jacks while camping and a few scares with mudcrabs in shin-deep mud - but then I realise almost everwhere else you go the hardest ♥♥♥♥ they come across on a day to day basis is groundhogs or pidgeons or hedgehogs or foxes or racoons or something else that _might_ steal your rubbish but isn't dangerous plus is unprotected if it comes to hitting it with your car.
Except canada I guess, cause they've got wolves and bears.
Also Australia day is only bad if you get caught in a crazy racist mob. In effect you stay out of main squares and you're probably ok.
