I'm wanting to get some new headphones, but I'm not sure what to get!
Mainly I want it to be over-the-ear style, have a decently long cord, have some sort of volume control on it, be durable, and give good sound quality for about $20-$40.

I would love recommendations (Or de-recommendations?) but here are some that I've found so far:

I'm noticing most of the Sennheiser is highly rated, but they have no volume control! GAH!

Skullcandy headphones look pretty cool, and they have a nice sound quality too.
They're a little pricey though, and sometimes they break easily. They have a pretty good warranty about that though. (If it breaks like a month after you get it they resupply it, otherwise you send it back to them and get half off any product of theirs.)

Those Skullcandy headphones are made of sex. Get those.

If you listen to music as loud as I do, you'll go for the Sennheiser ambient noise attenuation for the love of your hearing. Otherwise they're all fairly simliar, although I'd lean more towards the sony than JVC.

As for the skullcandy, I checked it out and most of their stuff, and its all really sexy looking and stuff, but I'm not going to be going outside with these, its mainly for my computer, I'd rather not pay for something I'm not going to use, right? I'm not sure though, if they really are that good then maybe I should get one...

Can't really help with sound quality, but I must say that the pair of wireless headphones I got as a present have been in constant use since I got them 5 years ago, replacing a similar quality pair of wired ones.

I was interested in the skullcandy headphones, so I checked it out.
Everyone says its great, there is volume control of the cord...
But, here is what I found:

"I had sore ears but after wearing them the day after I don't have it anymore. I think my ears got use to them."
"The ear muffs or whatever you call them are smaller than most of these style headphones, and very tight against the head."
"The first 2 days I wore them they gave me a headache and I felt nauseous"
"Its as if they're designed to sound so good you want a pair, but to break so you have to continually buy more. For $50 they could have a much sturdier frame.

I will be ultra-careful yet they will break within six months as the cheap plastic is too rigid and too tight, forcing me to stretch them to fit. I wonder if the manufacturer even tried them on..."
"But, I have been VERY careful with these and they still snapped in two where the headphones adjust - since they are plastic they are done for, and I did not even have them for a year. I will spend more next time and get a more durable pair."

EDIT: after taking Seraph's recommendation about Sennheiser, I searched around a bit, I think I found an awesome pair of headphones to replace my current torn up logitech headset (Which functions now as a headphone since the mic cord got torn off and the cord's plastic just got totally stripped away in certain areas.).
Sennheiser with volume control, time to give it a try.

Sony MDR V150 is what I have.
The only problem I've had with them is some ear discomfort after using them for what's certainly too long anyways. [8+ hours]
But they can't be too uncomfortable, if I've had them on for the last hour out of habit and not yet even turned on the speakers they're plugged into.
The sound quality is good but not amazing or particularly impressive.
This pair has been very durable, lasting for a long time despite abuse.
The cord is 2 meters.
$20, $15 on Amazon.

If you wanted something on the cheaper side of your budget, I would recommend these.
