This topic is a month old and nobody needs terabyte drives. I have a terabyte and a half of space and I don't use close to all of it.

no?

okay let's disregard the first six SSDs in this list http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/high_end_drives.html

you see that seagate right there? it's a 500GB drive (and disregard their typo). the second seagate is also 500GB and only sixty dollars

I believe you are looking for data transfer rate.
Capacity is the next door over.

I'm not sure at the moment, being half asleep, but the 1TB drives are at least newer.

But, anyway, If you mean the Barracuda 500GB 7200.12, then yes. Get that. Cheap and fast. Almost as fast as the awesome caviar black (According to TomsHardware, which is also why I say that TB drives are faster.)

i got my new compy about a month ago, and hilariously we decided on neither of the above machines.
Code:
2.6GHz Phenom 2 720 Black Edition, Saphire 4850, 4GB Ram, 320GB HDD

cheaper, and im happy with it. lagless CC, and crysis on a mixture of high and very high (with medium shadows), for less than one grand NZD. hooray :)

using pricespy.co.nz a little, and got the 4850 on special, a $4 upgrade from a 4830.
the mobo, CPU and ram came in a bundle for $650, if i remember correctly.
we already had case and LCD.

You should check newegg before you buy stuff, sometimes they have nice sales and bundles.

How useful would a quad core be? Most games don't support more than 1 core so basically you'd be getting only one core of a CPU thats meant to use 4 (so each core would be weaker, wouldn't it?) , instead of 1 core of a CPU thats meant to run with 2 cores. Admittedly, I don't know much about this, so...

Windows has processes running automatically so if you have more than 1 core that means less processes on that CPU and more CPU used on the game you are playing. (if it only supports one core) If it supports more then that is awesome.

Dual core is more bang for your buck but quad cores are going to start mattering in a big way soon and they aren't that expensive. If you're buying a ridic. high end machine a bad proc will bottleneck you.
