Fix is stretched and...
Are you a ♥♥♥♥ moron?
ONTOPIC: Source can really only make mods, also it's WAY more complicated than GM. It's true that some really top-notch mods have come from it, but... it's just not as friendly as GM.

Source SDK has full 3D includes textures models and everything you need to make a commercial quality game. Game Maker does have its advantages over Source but source is also fun and easy to make stuff in. Really all I was trying to say is that source is a nice alternative to gamemaker. Sorry I pissed you guys off I really didn't mean to, now can we please fix the stretch. Yes I am a moron ill try my best not to be though. Hi, I am trying not to be very mean but I was very annoyed by the freshman on the bus. Anyways, Game Maker cannot so far make good commercial quality in 3D, but in 2D, many games are "commercial quality". Most games you see are cruddy Halo fan games, made by annoying 12 year olds. Some are very good though.

Game Maker is simple Source is advanced Both can make great games if you know how to use them right. Though in GM all I could do was make a stupid keep the ball up game and even then it handled very badly. I find it easier to learn source.

Re: So... Game Maker.
Orvos. Stop posting in this thread about Source SDK. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, and it's off-topic. It is a kit designed to make 3D games that use the source engine and have shooter elements. Game maker is a program in which you make your OWN engine using parts that are set up for you beforehand. They are entirely different and have entirely different purposes. On another note, I have some experience with Game Maker. I've made a few games but they were all for competitions with 3-month deadlines that I didn't get around to working on until 2 months in Right now I've actually got a little group running, and we were going to work on an MMORPG. Unfortunately, seeing as how we can't even seem to get our website working, I'm not sure how plausible it is.

Mushrooshi wrote: annoying 12 year olds Sorry, couldn't resist. You really don't deserve that, but the shot is right there and I have to take it. Hope the game goes well; best thing I ever played that was made in GM was Battleships Forever, which is easily one of the coolest little things I've ever found on the 'tubes. One thing I can't quite understand about game maker; is it just an engine and a scripting language, or is it more like a drag-and-drop and hey presto it's a Mario clone?

Re: So... Game Maker.
It's both. If you're an Quote: annoying 12 year old you probably only use drag and drop. It's pretty limited if you do, though. It basically displays a small array of functions in little box shapes. The scripting language itself is pretty good other than the fact that it's interpreted, so it doesn't run very well in high-stress situations. It does handle dealing with graphics pretty well, though. You don't need any extra extensions or anything if you just buy the full version for 20 bucks. You can rotate, stretch, skew, do pretty much anything with it with little or no work. It's definitely not the greatest engine for professional games, though. It doesn't let you do anything too complicated. Also, just for the record, five hours after having posted that the project may not happen, the programmer and I discussed and it probably isn't. We're going to do something a bit more interesting with C++.

Yeah, some games are so good you don't even realize that they were made in game maker(but the ridiculously long loading times and extremely laggy visual effects might be a clue).

Re: So... Game Maker.
Spelunky and Verge disprove your point. There's nothing wrong with game maker as a standard quality 2d sidescroller engine. It costs money, making it less attractive than other engines, but there's nothing whatsoever wrong with it. And now I'm done defending game maker. Source SDK is good for making almost universally playable 3d games, but it's obviously going to be more complex than something dedicated almost exclusively to 2d games.
