I'm assuming you mean Hot for Teacher and Satch Boogie. So no, it's not impossible, it's just easier. I always feel more accurate fretting the slider part on Satch Boogie.

If I took the time to become accustomed to the slider bar, I might actually use it, but it's a bit finicky and difficult to shift in/out of.

Also, I'm desperately looking for someone who wants to buy the PS2 guitar kit, since the only way to get the drum kit and mike is to get the band kit, and I already have the guitar kit and don't want to shell out $90 for a third guitar and redundant game. Sadly, everyone already has it or doesn't want it for the PS2.

I beat them all the time without the slider, since my slider is unresponsive most of the time. Satch Boogie is very difficult with just the buttons, since it really takes a lot of energy. The Day That Never Comes by Metallica has a slide part that is pretty much impossible without a slider, or atleast hitting most of the notes is. It looks like this:
