Dear DataRealms,
Ever want to make a good, long-lasting CYOA? Ever wonder what CYOA stands for? And do you want to know why you should or shouldn't attempt a CYOA? Want to know how to
make a CYOA? Well find out here at 'All `bout a CYOA' or, ABC.
We begin with a stern talk with yourself. Ask yourself
"Should I really even
make a CYOA"?
"Will everyone hate it and flame me?"
"Will I have enough time a day to carry on with my CYOA?
"Do I even know what CYOA
stands for?"
"Can I make an at least semi-artistic background and characters?"
I can only answer a few of the questions for you.
(1) CYOA stands for
Choose
Your
Own
Adventure.
(2) To find out if you have enough time, make your first panel, as well as you can. And if it took you really long to make. I'd say try to not make the CYOA, or just make it less detailed. Because if it's too detailed, you will give up on it soon enough because it will be too much work.
(3) People will hate it and flame it if it has 1. No plot, 2. Bad Artsy skillz, and 3. makes no sense at all.
Now on how to actually make your CYOA.
Step one on making a CYOA:Make your main character -
Step two on making a CYOA:Decide the plot -
One day a huge war broke out and many harmless people were called into battle. Many innocent people were killed, but even more were put
into the battle. But there was one man that was fighting hard to protect his people. And that man was -insert name here-.
Step three on making a CYOA:Build around your plot -
By 1. making a background and setting.
And please, for the love of all things CYOA, use a program that has Layering.
By 2. Special effects like explosions should not stay through more than one panel.
And try to make your character look almost exactly the same as he did. Don't dramatically change him.
Step four on making a CYOA:Plan your story -
Think of what will happen next, map out possibilities if you have time.
Make very loose drawings, don't waste too much time on mapping.
Step five on making a CYOA:Think of an ending -
The ending is the most important part, so make sure it's not a 'Knife through head because you failed and should have gone right' ending.
Well, so far that's about all you need to know about the basics of making a CYOA.
I'll edit later when I feel like adding a more 'into it' or 'advanced' part.
Hope you injoyed reading, and hope it helped.
Note I didn't go for a huge detailed picture part, just examples.
