Post External Hard drive/Ipod
Ok, so my external hard drive (USB 2.0) died on me. Needless to say, that held all my music. All of it is on my iPod, I know where it is located on it (iPod_Control) but it has some really funky names to it. (WKZY.mp3) All the tages are kept the same, but with almost 1k songs, you really wouldn't wanna go and rename them all.

How would I, go about mass renaming them based on their ID3 tags? Programs, special window trick? Etc.

EDIT: I totally forgot to ask about the HD case; anyone know how I could fix that too? The hds in it boot but windows won't recognize them.

It's sickening that I'd even link this, but desperate times ... a result on Google. I can't endorse it or even support it, and downloading it is at your own risk. I don't keep up with music technology, so that's the best I've got.

Now, onto your external drive. Is it sold state (like a thumb-drive; smaller than your hand) or plate based (the older, larger ones) ? For plate based, assuming it's completely obliterated and you can't convince anyone to fix it, you could try this (looks fun). Of course, if it's a sold state drive I have no idea how to fix it. All I can say is that they're hardy enough to never break for me - 'left mine in a pocket for two wash/dry cycles and it still works as well as the day I inherited it.

I came here cause google searching gave my computer AIDS. Though that program looks rather legit. I'll try it out on my laptop, thanks.

My hard drive was a plate based one I guess you could say, so that might help, thanks.

No, no programs like that exist.

Sorry.

Both are pretty decent.

Apparently you didn't even look at the page, because I've used both for this very purpose.
