Hmm. Maybe I should have put this in the scenes section, but I'm not sure, since this is more like a gamemode than anything else. But anyway, I present you:
TRADESTAR DEFENSE

http://drop.io/f3tnhyu#So yeah, this is it, my entry for a mod contest long long ago. I just decided to re-release it because not many people knew about the contests by the time I made this, and, basically, I felt like releasing it again.
Basically, it is one of those retro one-immobile-turret-versus-the-world shmups, you just need to aim and shoot. It has two gamemodes, the Normal, which is short but has a greater variety of enemies, and the Overlimit, which is endless, just for people to aim for the highest score. I even made a sparkly little ending movie, check it out on the EXTRAS folder.
And, if you want a bit of backstory or whatnot:
Quote:
Stardate 589.559/17. Space sector 779-21B. A lone Tradestar Midas space station orbits a small planet in a distant solar system. If one looked inside,
he would see a commotion taking place. One of the upper decks was being overrun by zombies, and a small band of survivors was fending off the unholy mob
with the aid of their trusty machineguns. If one would look a little closer, he would see that the band was being leaded by a young man with a look of
complete awesomeness. If one would look even closer, he would probably notice a small ID card attached to the man's shirt with the words "Hi, my name
is Dafred!" printed upon it.
And so, this man, whom, in the sake of organization, we will call DAFRED, was fending off ZOMBIES with his trusty MACHINEGUN (Which, according to some
bystanders, was actually a hairpin of unusual shape) and heading in the direction of the TURRET CONTROL room. "Why?", one might ask. The answer to such
a question is that DAFRED had been summoned by the station's maintenance coordinator, CHIEF QUIBBLEBOG HEMINGSWORTH (also known as HQ for unknown reasons),
to deal with quite an urgent situation: A gravitational ANOMALY had appeared right over the TRADESTAR, and is pouring ASTEROIDS on in. HQ is not sure how
much more the ship's hull can take, so he sent DAFRED to defend the station with a big, shiny LASER TURRET, that is located in the TURRET CONTROL room.
And now, for storytelling and gameplay purposes, you ARE DAFRED.
You, DAFRED, have just stormed into the control room, with your loyal squad of survivors, who are now barricading the door with several pieces of random
furniture. To your right, you see a poster of Mel Gibson, playing the role of Max in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. Oh God how you love that movie. To your
left, there is the mighty TURRET BASE, a mess of wires and pipework that allows one to climb into the station's main LASER TURRET. It is also an exact
replica of the Steam Tower's control tower in Steamboy. You also freakin' love that movie.
You start climbing onto the TURRET BASE, which, for unknown reasons, passes right through the station's VIEWING DECK. And there, amidst the crowd, is SANDRA,
the only woman you have ever loved and ever will love. You wave at SANDRA. She waves back. You decide you've wasted too much time climbing already,
and quickly reach the LASER TURRET. There, you hear HQ's voice on the radio. He utters some instructions on how to use the turret, but you're too hard-boiled
to listen. The ASTEROIDS are closing in fast. You ready yourself to crash or crash through. The show has begun.
...
...
...
Wait, this damn turret has no cockpit!
Feeling a bit stupid, you quickly climb back down the TURRET BASE. You had completely forgotten that this is a REMOTE CONTROL TURRET. While turning on the
damn thing's CONTROL COMPUTER, you feel a bit nostalgic about the time when stuff was simple, and to fire a turret you just had to press the trigger. Oh well,
whatever. The ASTEROIDS are still closing in fast. You, once more, ready yourself to crash or crash through. NOW the show has begun.
Any questions, just read the README.txt in the mod's folder, or ask here.
