Post subject: | TF Grappling Gun *Update (5-18-10) Smoother Swinging + Guide |
A device that lets you climb great heights, swing from building to building, or snipe from an unusual position. This device has 3 modes: normal (standard), spring, and double shot. Switch modes by opening the Pie Menu and selecting the AI Gold option. Normal Mode: Works like a grappling gun, allowing you to ascend/descend at a steady rate and swing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Controls: Hold Fire to launch the claw untill it hits something. Releasing Fire before the claw hits something will bring the claw back. Release Fire and press Fire again to bring back claw and relaunch. Triple-tap Crouch to release the claw and bring it back, even when holding a different device. Keyboard or Gamepads - Hold Crouch and Up/Down to climb up/down the rope. Mouse + keyboard - Hold Crouch and Scroll Up/Scroll Down to climb up/down the rope. You could also switch to another tool or weapon and use it while hanging on the rope. NEW Swing Guide: Allows you to see where you will swing. ![]() To disable the swing guide, open up "TF Grappling Gun.rte/Scripts/Standard/GrapplingGunStandard.lua" You should see a box-like thing that is titled "Settings." Change the second-to-last setting to disable or enable the swing guide. Spring Mode: Quickly pulls you towards the claw when stuck to cross chasms or pass enemies. ![]() Controls: Hold Fire to launch the claw untill it hits something. Once it does, it will quickly but safely pull you towards it untill you are at its position. Release Fire at anytime to bring back the claw. Double Shot Mode Works like the standard mode, but can fire 2 claws and you can move to the first or second one. ![]() Controls: Hold Fire untill the first claw hits something. Release and Fire again to fire the second claw. Hold Crouch + Left/Right to loosen/tighten both ropes. Keyboard users - Hold Crouch and Up/Down to move inbetween the claws. Mouse users - Hold Crouch and Scroll Up/Down to move inbetween the claws. Triple-tap Crouch to release one or both claws. Change Log: (5-18-10) -Made swinging much smoother. -Added the swing guide. (4-25-10) -Both ropes on Double shot mode can be tightened/loosened at the same time. -User won't shake when using Double shot mode. -Screen won't flip out when using the grappling gun across map seams. (4-24-10) -Added Double Shot mode. -Fixed for mac users. (4-23-10) -Switch scripts have been updated for more reliability. -You can tripple-tap crouch to release the claw anytime when it's latched onto terrain, even when holding a different device. Looks cool. Gosh you make mods fast. Testing. EDIT: Back from testing. I like it but not many maps need it and i don't use jet~less actors. Can you make a grapple hook like this that when you hold crouch and scroll up it would rip off there body part that you were attached to. |

I posit the notion that CaveCricket is, in fact, a brain in a jar. Due to his screen name abbreviating to "CC" this seems appropriate. |

Then data will put some of your mods in the game, hidden. |

[Mod edit] The previous part of this post is an example of how not to respond to flaming. CC, this mod is awesome. This is what the grapling gun is supposed to be like. This mod is a masterpiece. |

CaveCricket you make me feel bad for not being as competent a modder as you even though we are the same age. Regardless, I love the mod! |

I found a bug. IF you climb up it(lower the length), you can drag yourself through solid terrain as if it weren't there. It does damage you OR the terrain, but it's odd. |

Here are some bugs I've managed to spot: 1. Camera gets spazzy/jumpy (or whatever you call it) on the loop point of the map. 2. Once you are grappled (both grappling hooks) and quit to the main menu, once you return the game will crash. 2nd one was tested with Claw in campaign (thought that would be the problem) and with the Hook in a skirmish map. Great mod nevertheless. |

This is a side-effect of the rope method I used. It creates a rope with some-what realistic pendulum physics but ignores terrain. AlexXxz wrote: Here are some bugs I've managed to spot: 1. I totally mind-raped my friend the other day with the claw shot. I took a heavy sniper, and shot at him, then pulled myself through solid rock to the safety of my base. He immediately started laughing, and came back and pwned me. |
