I dont get it... It looks fantastic, But the only thing I notice is the sprites aren't becoming part of the map, and it looks nice. Could you explain it a little? I think I missed something. Mostly, I don't see how Foa got delayed/initial releases from that gif.

it would be nicer if all the fire puff sprites didnt end as quickly. smoke is necessary from what i can see in that pic. the initial explosion is beautiful, but the end isnt as nice as it could be.. you got the volumetric effect working, just the end is still ugly. add some of the smoke sprites to the end of the MOSP animation.. those puff sprites have always annoyed me.

It looks great, and i may have figured out the trick:

the animation sprites for explosions generally stay the same size (about), but these are different. as they turn from orange to black they get much larger, like plumes of smoke growing from one roaring fire.

The way it normally seems to work is that the orange fills the circular sprite, then recedes and in its trail leaves a smoke sprite. They pop and fade. The ones in the gif burst and grow.

The explosion looks great, but isn't it rather fiery-smokey compared to an actual explosion? I can't help thinking "Petrol blast wut", but then again, petrol explosions do look a lot prettier than an ordinary explosion. Also, very sneaky, that volumetric illusion. And nicely made, too.

I'm not really going for realistic, just wanted to make them pretty and unique =]

Not quite sure what foa is talking about either =/

The two important things about these explosions are the way the sprites give the impression of expanding smoke from within the explosion, and the way the trails of the explosion split into more to imitate the way a real explosion spreads to burn up the surrounding air.

The sprites do end very suddenly, I'll work on that before release!

Nice you started working with these guys again capnbubs. And that explosion looks the most beutifull I have ever seen in cc.

Sure, art is nice when it is a sprite, but Bubs has such an
awesome artistic mind that he made it fully dynamic and
it still looks great. Just the effect you were looking for.
Though, as mentioned, it does go from deep black smoke
to white willowy smoke rather quickly.

Those look pretty fantastic and a lot less cartoony (which is neither good nor bad). Good news that you're working on these guys again.
