Re: Hammer R2 - 2010-03-18
If you're looking for applications of this, I have an interesting idea.
A dropship with grappling cables (five or so) extending from the doors and a very short normal door. The cables ends automatically home in on actors near them, and then retract until the actor has been retrieved. Perhaps a "rage mode" where the cables simply drag things apart.
I was trying to implement this but got confused and bored, and began work on a mining ship instead.

Geti wrote: Very much enjoying the revision, though settling is still an issue.. is the actor RestThreshold -500 and using the normal lua nonsettling tricks? I'm doing "Age = 1" and "ToSettle = false" every frame, plus a negative RestThreshold. Do you know of any other tricks?

Arcanorum is very broken, when it comes to brokenness, it makes Action 64 look pristine. There is a hammerfight demo, and I can tell you ( I have played both ) Hammerfight is the cocaine, to Arcanorum's Belgian Mammogram! Hammerfall, the ancestor of Hammerfight, made 7 ( or so ) years ago, arguable the best ♥♥♥♥ game ever, better than CC, it was an award winner at the GDC a long time ago. Hammerfall wasn't a complete game ( story mode cut off in the 4th chapter ) , but it damn well was a whole game in right ( it had three other game modes ) , it's a piece of Edin. Hammerfight filled in all the gaps, and added 100% more content, it's a bigger piece of Edin. Arcanorum, looks like a nooblet's first game, made in one weekend, worse than Action 64, and Action 64 makes hell look like a delicious pie.

*Sighs, massaging his temples* Yet another case of Robotnikitus.
I kid. But, yeah, this mod is exceedingly fun. It's like..., bowling ball, but with dropships, large hammers, and the pins are those poor, poor coalitions and dummies..

Finally got to try R2. The Ball and chain just went from the worst to the best weapon.

Still requesting a solid chain whip for the next revision. The ball and chain is pretty cool but I still want a cat-o-nine-tails idea, that would be righteous.

This is wonderful. The mission is even better. Variations on this idea would be awesome.

It looks to me like the chain breaks because the joints in the chain settle when in contact with the ground. I suspect this can be avoided (at least to some extent) by making them actors, just like the hammer head. If this works, a whip would be the next logical addition.
