New section?
I was thinking we could have an introduction/beginner section for welcoming new members, you know, an area where harsh flaming or trolling is bannable instantly, etc.

Re: New section?
This happened, I don't think it worked out well. Then again, there was no "instant banning" clause.

Re: New section?
Why? If you're worth being known at all you'll show it in your posts, and if not, you won't. Forum is getting too big for that anyway.

Re: New section?
I considered this idea! I don't think it'll work so well though. It'll be quiet and empty as-is. At best we should have an "introductions" thread stickied somewhere - maybe in the off topic section?.. Something worth thinking about anyway. Harsh flaming/trolling gets an instaban anyway (see reference: Grif), so everyone is going to be on their best behaviour for newbs anyway.

Re: New section?
We did once have an introductions thread - it's still there... Locked.

Re: New section?
What I meant was that if peop- I won't say it, but you are fully aware of what I'm talking about, they'll keep getting the impression that their every whim will be catered to. I understand that "tough love" (as someone would put things) is no longer welcome, but neither should be allowing newcomers to say and do as they please. We have had attempts made by people to be nice. They didn't work. I do not agree with the insta-ban if the newbies don't get the message. If they do posses at least some modesty, then yes, I agree that a 0-tolerance policy on trolling should be put into place for that particular person.

Re: New section?
Why cant newbies do as they please? They are members, new or not. As long as they abide by the rules they can do whatever they want.
There needs to be a section for people to introduce themselves. So new people to feel welcomed into the community. Not a place for newbies to make random topics to boost their ego.

Re: New section?
Not being able to do as they please =/= restrictions. Just general enforcement of rules. You know, what took the last time a whole thread of stupidity to happen.

Re: New section?
That's why we're around - The report function gives us a good heads up if stuff starts going south and we'll nuke it or use a fine surgical scalpel to do nasty things to whoever is in the wrong.

Re: New section?
I understand (not actually doing it doesn't mean I don't get it), but a thread like *that* one should be locked as soon as it's noticed by anyone, with an explanation given to the starter. It is, indeed, up to you to judge what is offensive or not. However, banning people for being ♥♥♥holes to persons who have been asked nicely to stop being annoying is excessive. Also, it might be just me, but there are certain things even I won't stand being called, and I can take insults pretty well. Showing up and insulting someone who is politely trying to explain what you're doing wrong isn't exactly a positive quality for a member, and in such a case, (extremely) limited flaming SHOULD be allowed. I'm not saying that they should not be warned, but they should not get insta-banned either, unless the post can be summed up to GTFO.

Re: New section?
If they're being annoying you can easily ignore them, it'll all be in one thread or forum section.
'Oh, they're being annoying, I HAVE TO flame them, the little ♥♥♥holes!' is not a legitimate excuse. Grow up.

Re: New section?
Have to flame? No. Have to point out that they ♥♥♥♥ up so that they won't do the same thing in regular posts? Yes. How rude said explanations are is usually directly proportional to the qualities (or lack thereof) of the person being attacked, along with the amount of previous polite posts which have been ignored.
