Folks,

Just wanted to let you know that there will be a pause in the regular releases of test builds of DIRT, because we are currently completely overhauling the graphics system, and porting it to Allegro.

We're doing this in order to fix the many performance issues and other crash/incompatibility problems currently present, and, equally importantly, to be able to port the whole game over to linux and the macosx platforms, since the new API's we'll be using exclusively are cross-platform.

Also, we are hoping this will allow windowed mode and elegant task switching in and out of gameplay.

In short, the graphics should end up looking just like they do now, but much faster and on many more computers than now. :D

Thanks for your feedback and patience, your support is helping tremendously.

Not anything other than that we're working hard to port this baby to allegro right now, and it's going slow because of other distractions. It's definitely going forward though, and you will never have to worry about this proejct being abandoned. It's been going on for 5+ years now, and it's still alive, so..

Folks,

I am happy to report that I just resigned from one of my day jobs, so I will be using much o th efree time to work on the project again. (yes, for real this time)

You may have notice that the site went down for a while; I had to move it to a new host. Everything is up and running again, but some posts may have been lsot msince I only had a backup of the database from early sept available.

I'm talked to our fav artist Prom, and he's expressed interest in creating some more kickass content as well. Although I'm woefully behind on implementing stuff for the art he's already contributed...

So hang tight and keep an eye out for new content and a reworked site and new progress in general!

Spent the last month on it. Basically it's been the regular grueling work of poritng from one library to another. Right now I'm working on the timing functions.

When the porting is done, we'll release a build that is functionally similar to the last one, but now should run faster and with much better compatibility, and run in a window too. Only then can we go ahead and continue implementing features and polish.

As to when the next build is to be released, the answer is: when it's done. ;)
