Post What am I missing?
Hi everyone, I discovered Cortex Commander when the game came out on steam, and I love the 2d voxel effects, the huge variety of weapons, the LUA and mod support, and a lot of other things.

The problem is, it seems like there isn't anything to do except for endless survival, which I find gets boring very quickly because the onslaughts are so extreme I just get overrun quickly.

I'm not claiming to be good at this game but the "campaign" mode is ridiculously easy, the survival modes are all super hard on any difficulty to the point of it being nearly impossible to survive for 5 minutes without just "cheesing" the AI, so what am I supposed to do? I feel like a kid with this huge toybox full of tanks and cool voxel work/physics and there's nothing to do with them. I downloaded some user scenarios, and there's a Survival Skirmish map that eliminates gold gathering in lieu of just getting gold periodically (which is good... since the "automine" function does not work 80% of the time, and I can find no work around)... but its still just endless survival skirmish... and the same poor guy made a campaign map that resembles the WH40k map where they introduced the necrons. Which I would play, but due to the incredible lua hacking the poor bastard had to do to make it work, his menu system doesn't support my desktop resolution (resolutions larger than 800x600). This game also, despite all its cool whistles, is missing basic features that are essential. Like it really needs an in-game pause button, considering the incredible need for micromanagement and the complete lack of micromanagement options. You can't even pause in buymenu.

Is there anything challenging and fun besides survival skirmish? There are so many toys and so many cool ideas and great modpacks for this game and the failure of the devs to make these into some kind of strategic gameplay, is so infuriating. This game gives me the weirdest, most mixed feelings ever.

Mod in Darth Vader

Seriously though I have been getting my tactical command on with V 1.0 by ordering in 3-4 soldiers at once on brain hunt mode and running with them as a one-at-a-time micromanager and it works pretty well.

OK yes the campaign is pretty bare bones, but it was basically just added to the game and honestly, what kind of campaign do you think would really fit this game, as messy as it is? I certainly don't know.

The main point of this game isn't the campaign or survival or whatever - it's blowing stuff up. I personally feel like there is scope for something more but ATM that's really what it is. I could suggest Data some sweet ideas to improve the tactical aspect, but I don't think he's super interested and that's cool.

zedkiller, you could try searching the Scene Releases for Tartarus. It's a really fun and actually not very hard, but challenging mission made by the same guy you were talking about. You can choose the defending and attacking faction and both have unlimited reinforcements. The actual fighting happens in an underground bunker, where the attacker must destroy generators to advance. It's kinda like the Rush mode present on newer Battlefield games.
