Promster has no love for Ronin
That's why I'm expressing mine towards our resident rag tag team of fragile human flesh. Here is my unsuccessful rip-off of Promster's style. I've always wanted to see Ronin concepts from him, but I guess they were only meant to be a small part for the finished (if ever) game. They just don't get much official attention. From left to right: More Ronin stuff. From left to right: Crazy Kelly actor made by 4zK. Get your own fully articulated Crazy Kelly HERE, chainsaw included!! These are designs that deviate a little from the Ronin color scheme. From left to right: Scrap stuff. A Ronin soldier with helmet (someone did made a scene with Ronins wearing helmets), and a miner. A mining unit is the last thing the Ronin need, since their low cost troop should fill all roles (albeit poorly). However, I do like to see miners from other factions. Ronin soldier with spas1200. On the right: Ronin soldier with make-shift armor made from Dummy parts.

Wonderfully made. I enjoy how you included a generic Ronin soldier. I've always disliked how every actor in the Ronin arsenal is an individual character.

Gawd, I love that alien. CC lacks aliens.

Re: Promster has no love for Ronin
It is kinda funny that, for all the mention of aliens in the backstory, the only maybe-'aliens' we really have are the Imperatus and Techion.
Mind you, it's entirely possible that the brains used in the game for brainbots and braincases aren't necessarily all chosen from human candidates...
More generic-ish Ronin looks good though. Maybe get a little more 'junky' and improvised-looking with the armour?

Re: Promster has no love for Ronin
i actually think you don't need the generic soldier, in fact i'd rather they didn't include it.
what would be awesome is there would be only one ronin soldier on the buylist (or two if you want a heavy armored ronin) and the heads+voices would be randomized.
so you buy three ronin soldiers you get three randomly picked characters.

Wow! Your concept art looks great. I noticed that the chest plate looks a lot like the Coalition's - maybe you should make it look more jury-rigged, like Arcalane mentioned?
Also, the communications drone looks a bit too neat to be Ronin. Making the fact that it's constructed from old satellite parts more obvious might do it.

Gotcha! wrote: Gawd, I love that alien. CC lacks aliens. That. Also, good art work, it's very interesting. The communication drood sounds intriguing, and made me think of different things about Cortex Command. Like about the fog of war. After revealing the map, it should be revealed, but you shouldn't be able to see if there are units somewhere unless there is an actor nearby, like FoG in almost any -if not all- RTS, and having a communication droid would make actors get revealed on the map (or in the minimap, if that is supposed to get implemented at all). But maybe it wouldn't fit much on CC atmosphere, considering that you have all this satellite technology and all that jazz. Or maybe the communication droid should buff the AI and make it aim much more precisely, that would be easier to do. Anyway, going on topic again, your art work is very good, hopefuly you'll inspire a good modder to give more love to the Ronin.

Bad Boy in Tested out B27... my thoughs wrote: But yeah, recovering fog of war would be a good thing. In fact I don't understand why data didn't just choose to follow the rts formula of black fog and grey fog where black fog stays gone and grey fog comes back and obscures actors (or better yet shows them foggily at their last seen position) but not terrain or scene objects. In short, I agree with asklar. The com droid could also be used to call down artillery and other support weapons though the other ideas are definitely more interesting. And the art is great, not quite the same as promster's (unsuprisingly) but still close and very good. If nothing else it got me to take a look at the blog in your sig, it's a shame you haven't updated that in a while.

NeoSeeker wrote: i actually think you don't need the generic soldier, in fact i'd rather they didn't include it. You are right about the randomize thing. There is no need for a plain Ronin. In fact, I think the Ronin unit classes should not be like any other faction (lite, med, hev). It should be low class grunts(random look) + special character units. Lucem wrote: I noticed that the chest plate looks a lot like the Coalition's - maybe you should make it look more jury-rigged, like Arcalane mentioned? Since the Ronin torso sprite is just a recolored coa torso, I simply went from there. I personally thought the Ronin should wear flak jackets (since they use 20th century firearms), though that metalic grey on thwir chest keeps making me think armor plates. I think of the com droid as a landing zone expander, though FOG effects and airstrikes might fit even better. And yes, it does look too neat.

Randomized ronin are something we've been thinking about quite a while.
Not too high a priority however.

Great art! I love it!
RE heads:
In my opinion,
Heads with unique faces and hair: bad
Randomised heads from the above: not great
Ronin with anonymising face mask: great

Randomized Ronin can easily be implemented with the script I am using for my NovaMind mod.

Re: Promster has no love for Ronin
crow you have a good idea but what would be even cooler is if you shot off said face mask behind it would be the face of the one of 8(?)? ronin faces.
also girl and guy pain sounds and such

Re: Promster has no love for Ronin
That was one thing I really loved about Geti's Zombies '09 mod; you could buy a soldier and expect one of several random faces, and then voices to match the gender. Really nicely done, and would look really good if implemented with the Ronin.
