I played some metagame recently and decided to write about some of my impressions.
First of all, Data did an amazing job at this. Whole game feels much more polished and complete and metagame is actually very fun to play, even though it has some glaring flaws in game mechanics, the biggest one being the Atacking AI that poses absolutely NO treat.
It's mostly caused by those three things: 1) Maps too small to give AI enough space to land un-molested. 2) AI has no idea what a ♥♥♥♥ DropBox is (I'm not even using DropShips or Rockets these days). 3) Nothing prevents the player from spreading his defensive units around the map to catch enemy BrainBot after it lands. Even a shittiest clone can easily kill enemy BrainBot with no effort.
My suggestion would be to make maps bigger and to teach AI to use DropBoxes (and drop more than one unit at a time) but I've got no solution for the third problem.
It's a big flaw though, IMO. Hopefully it will be addressed at some point.
Yeah, the campaign still needs work, especially the AI, but it is progressing nicely.
It would be nice if before sending in your brain you could load a few extra soldiers on the dropship as well, of course this would also work for the AI. This would make an outright attack on an enemy's LZ a bit more risky. Easiest way to do this is give us the buy menu from the start, but force a brain unit to be present on the order list.

I think that the attacking brain should be dropped in a special DropPod that burrows a couple meters into the ground. Like that one DropPod in UniTec mod.

There truly is a lot to look forward to for build 28 (release), few bug fixes, tough and yet realistic campaign (impossible to land at some well developed bases) (desert scene in particular) ,the techions, the imperutus and maybe some more browncoat weapons(don't know wether the mu-ilaak, the s'laaik(forgot name) and the heroine and her group will get into the game, doubt it(and maybe even wildlife ai. Additional ships and maybe a digger or two, some new lore and very importantly, brain vs brain (where ai works, (the only time there are two bases on one scene -classic, like the scenes of the pre 19 builds. Can't wait.

I'm hijacking this to ask, who decided not to have the meta ai do a MOID check when calling in troops? You even have the rte.rte.MOIDCountMax = 210 in place for gods sake. It's absolutely infuriating to have my brain blow up because the enemy decided it wanted a million mooks to stand on its roof.
Also, is it allowable to release a modified version of MetaFight.lua? It's not exactly a lot of work to have 10% of the enemies go attack your brain when you're attacking or to set it up so the enemy tries to run when out of guys and out of gold. I think a lot of people would probably like that more immediately than a new version would entail (which'll still probably be a little while cause I'm not exactly the best with deadlines ).

that's why i like guerrilla attacks where i dont actually take the base.
i just send in a squad and destroy as much ♥♥♥♥ as possible then airlift everyone including my brain out.
it's basically the only way to make the campaign fun for me considering actually taking a base is to easy and it's impossible for AI to take my base, even if im a good sport

Re: B27 Metagame Insights
I have a little bug here, sometimes there is a "Gold Site Found!" and I search for it and I find nothing. And then it start to build bases and have battles out of my screen, out there on the universe, where I can't see. Not my resolution...maybe a bug that makes gold sites be found outside the game?

Re: B27 Metagame Insights
have you tried moving around that box that houses the scan and expedition budget options?
it can move you know, and it can block things on the map so you can't see them.
it's not b28 it's 1.0 there is a difference trust me.
You hope there's a difference. Just because Data slaps 1.0 all over CC doesn't guarantee it isn't the bug fest that it is now. >_>

Re: B27 Metagame Insights
actually it has nothing to do with that.
1.0 is release. it's not just Data slappin on a 1.0 and sayin HEER YA GO. it's when the game is considered "complete" or at least enough so to officially release.
plus i shouldn't have to hope, it's pretty much been confirmed and said that all they're working on now is bugfixing, polish and content.
and there's a big difference for the devs as well.
this game has been being worked on for like a ♥♥♥♥ decade now. 1.0 on a game that takes that long to develop? gotta make you feel good if you're data

Re: B27 Metagame Insights
The Metagame is great however it would be nice if when you are attacking a AI owned area, if you could set up your own attack force with the "Attack Budget" so instead of having to land my brain by himself I could land him with some guys to defend him. Because it has happens many times that Im busy choosing my squad and the other team sneak up on me while Im in the shop.
Also a weird bug happens when i crouch/roll sometimes, or hit my head against a wall, it insta-kills me.

Watch where you roll/crouch/hit the wall, because if you roll and there is an enemy unit just in front of you, one of you are most likely to get buried and killed, and if you use the jet pack and start to fly like super man, you will hit somewhere and die.

yea, nah it is nothing like that when I randomly die, its more when i am walking through narrow ways or over rubble also I wish I could mod the diff of the AI because they are to easy to fend off/attack =D

Same here, that's the only way I can keep things rolling and having fun. Kudos!
