I'd heard a lot about how the latest cortex command build for linux (it's one version behind, still B25) was terrible. People were stating that it was slow, buggy and generally didn't work. It had become a fact that running the windows build through wine was clearly superior.

Except that when I tried running the program on my new linux machine, to my shock and horror, the thing ran cleanly. Not necessarily better than my native windows pc version of B26, but there was very little slowdown and certainly not as many bugs as people were describing.

Not having tried B25/26 through wine yet, I can't say whether performance would be better or worse, but from what I've seen so far I don't see how it can, since the natural decrease in power you expect out of wine would cripple the windows version beyond the performance of my linux build.

Apart from running build 26, what's the issue?

Here is the list of bugs I experienced:

  • An horrible sound instead of the normal sound for jetpack.
  • The game doesn't seems to have any frame limiter, it goes to fast on the tutorial.
  • The mission in the zombie cave doesn't have the script that make Ronin come in ambush.
  • On Dummy assault, the game lags and become unplayable for no apparent reason after you reach a few meters to the left of the first door
  • I thinks there is a bug too with magino defense, but I can't remember it.
  • Mods don't work.

So, the only playable way of playing CC on Linux for me is playing the tutorial over and over, and without sound. It's fun and tedious at the same time.

Are you using the 32 or 64 bit build?
