Spreading out about Cortex Command
Hey guys, I really think this is the right forum to post this, so here I go (you can just read the final two lines to understand what I want, but if you are interested in reading, then just go and read the whole thing).
What I want to tell you, is to make everything in every online platform or forums, etc. a Cortex Command spread...well, I don't know what word I use now, but I think you got it, so, use your signature, put on your profile description on Steam, when you are playing any online games just write on the chat: "CORTEX COMMAND IS THE BEST GAME EVER! GO PLAY IT!" So then everyone will start knowing about Cortex Command, and they will start buying it, and then Data will get the money to make the full game in the blink of an eye!
Basically, I am saying this because I know almost everyone in DRFF, CaveCricket48, Nonsequitorian, lucariokiller, Hunter01, TheLastBanana, Joseh123...oh wait... I hope you guys got what I wanted to mean: there are kind of only 30 people on this forum, so basically there are like 50 people who have brought Cortex Command. What I recommend is to add Cortex Command on Steam, I don't know what you guys have to do, but if you need to sell it, DON'T DO IT. Our mod makers and developers of the game are the best, don't change them. Thank you for everything, and sorry for that big text, but what I want is to make Cortex Command more popular, and I really would like some help.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
It's not that drumming up some more support isn't a bad thing, but WAY more than 50 people have bought CC. For starters, over 200,000 people bought the HIB2, which included CC, and I'm pretty sure the total sales achieved in over 6(?) years is pretty substantial. The active community just expands then shrinks between each new build, and I reckon if Data does release CC 1.0 proper this year there'll be a lot more traffic coming this way anyway. Always nice to see how much enthusiasm CC inspires in players though! Perhaps spreading the word might be better timed for when we have more info on the full release?

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
From the memberlist this forum has 13223 members. Presumably that excludes bots. Some of those are multi accounts and such but that's still a large number of people who know or have known about CC. And that's only people who've registered on these forums. As mentioned the HIB sold over 200k so I'm pretty sure a lot of people know about Cortex Command. Numbers aside your methods strikes me as obnoxious. Advertising for the game is fine but don't just spam game chats, that'll just make people think less of you and by extension the game you're advertising. Putting it in your sig or profile are fine though since it's a lot less irritating.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
That memberlist includes bots - we have no way of knowing what is and isn't a bot. Still, there's a substantial number of people. I agree with eddevilish on this. It's a great idea to drum up support, but it may be better to wait for more info about the full version. The methods you're suggesting are also not a great way of doing so. People will probably be more annoyed than anything. Also, for the record, getting on Steam is a lot harder than it sounds. Valve personally chooses every game that goes on there, so it's a bit more complicated than just saying "hi, put my game on Steam." When the game hits 1.0, I'm sure Data will look into it, but until then, it probably won't happen. Anyway, feel free to spread the word about the game, but don't worry about it too much right now. Glad to see you're enthusiastic about the game, though.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
i've never EVER been worried about the lack of community because i agree with those who say the number of users logging in does fluctuate at an alarmingly high rate when new builds are released. i've been on here like 5 years and it's like clockwork, especially if there's a bunch of new cool ♥♥♥♥ in the new build.
CC does need proper advertisement but it should only be advertised when version 1 is released, polished and ready. also valve would definitely sell the final product, i have no doubt in my mind that CC will be on steam eventually.
and just being on steam alone provides loads of proper advertisement.
i mean steam has some whack assed game where you play some random dictator's cat. it requires a dual core and shitloads of ram to run for some reason and the download is 52 megs.
if valve put that whack assed indie cat game on their library then they'd def put CC up

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
Well, I know there are lots of people who are in the forum, but kind of 90% of them are inactive, and there is even piracy on Cortex Command, try searching it on Google (I am not saying that you should download it, because the piracy don't get the newest version the same day it is out, so if you get the original game you will be able to get all versions), there will be lots of links to the game. Maybe half of the members on the members list didn't buy the game.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
True, but there's also a huge number of people who bought the game and never joined the forum. The member list here isn't a great way of determining how many people have bought Cortex Command.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
They already did. Repeatedly!
I agree with the others, though. CC hasn't made a lot of actual advances recently, so putting the word out now isn't going to do a whole lot of good. Better to wait for a more... opportune moment.

And it is better to wait for a good tutorial... One that does not murder the first time player instantly.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
We should stick it on /v/ Or /b/
Not that I trust either forum. At all. But that's how things become famous, at the black heart of the internet.

Re: Spreading out about Cortex Command
Try putting it on your Facebook, like you make an image with the Cortex Command image and a link to Data Realms, and then you post it there, and people will see the game and like it, then it will spread out everywhere.
